"I know nothing about South Dakota State. I know they have the best record in the tournament, and are very sound, but I don't know specifics. One of my assistants is assigned to them and I'll get familiar with them as we get closer to playing them."

There will be a big crowd for the game tonight. Utah St is averaging 8765. About 7200 attended the Bakersfield game. The Aggies have an afternoon football game in New Mexico. There may be a few fans there instead of Logan. The Aggies have 9 players playing 9.5 minutes or more per game. One of those is a senior. The others are 4 freshmen, 2 sophomores, and 2 juniors. (They have some size, but they do not have one that plays what appears to be a post player. A few of their bigger players have not logged any minutes yet.) Four of those playing average double figure scoring. The Aggies have a long streak(50 games) of winning their hosted OOC tourneys. The Mountain West Network is out there for video access. If the Jackrabbits can get a win on the third day in Logan, that would be a quality win even if it comes under the heading of ugly or lucky or whatever other description might evolve. The Aggies have been outrebounded much of the year. That may be an advantage for the Jacks. Also, Larson picked up 6 assists yesterday which means he is adjusting to the double and triple team that he has attracted this year. This could be the end of a streak for the Aggies winning their hosted tourneys. Go Jacks!!

The oddsmakers have Utah St a 3 point favorite. That may be the home court advantage.

I don't know if it means much, but Sagarin nowadays shows a default home court advantage of 4.45 points. He has SDSU's power rating at 72.80 and USU's at 73.42, which works out to be USU by 5.07. Of course, Sagarin's ratings only have two games worth of data of the George Marshall Era Jackrabbits.

So, therefore, my prediction is: if Marshall scores six or more, we're good.

(don't try this at home, kids . . . )

I'd be impressed with a win tonight. It's the third consecutive game and we run into the tournament's best team on their home floor with thousands in the stands to cheer them on. That's not a good combo for the visitors.

I think our players would welcome some atmosphere after USU employees outnumbered fans in the last 2 games.

That's an interesting question. Would a player prefer to play in front of a hostile crowd, or no crowd at all? I would think that the latter would make getting into the game very difficult.
