    Yes Saturday at half time, Dr Oien mentioned that the basketball coaches had a fabulous job in lining games up for next year. One of those work in progress projects.

      I understand from the administration that the schedules for 2004 will be released soon after Christmas.

        Wow, what a great article. If UNC can do that, just think what we can do. I hear Dr. Oien has a GREAT football schedule almost ready to go, and we are a Basketball school. I am so pumped about our D I basketball schedule, it should be great!

          JACKGUY,

          Is SDSU still going to release the '04-'05 schedule soon?

              From the Argus, more good news!  ;D

              http://www.argusleader.com/sports/Th...article2.shtml

              Three Division I men's basketball games for the 2004-05 season also were released Wednesday. The Jackrabbits will play at Butler in Indianapolis on Nov. 20, then participate in the Fresno State Tournament on Dec. 3-4.

              The game against Butler is a two-for-one contract, in which the Bulldogs will come to Brookings during the 2005-06 season. The Jacks will play Fresno State in that school's tournament and another, as of now unannounced opponent.

              Butler is a very good Horizon Leauge team.  It will be GREAT to see them in Frost! ;D  Beats the heck out of Si Tanka!

              Go State!

                This is great news. Butler in 2005 is a great game. The Fresno St. tournament is also an excellent early season test. Way to go Jacks!!

                    What happened, the U decide Ms. Laura's Finishing School for Young Ladies was too much for their program to take.  MLFSYL is an up and comer in the new world of D-II.

                      Back on topic, here is a little info on the Butler Bulldogs:

                      http://butlersports.ocsn.com/sports/...skbl-body.html

                      Lot of Freshmen on the team, a little rebuilding going on this season.  Quality wins over Northern Iowa and Indiana State.  OT loss to Michigan.  A lot of OT games this year.

                      Here is the Fresno State site:

                      http://gobulldogs.ocsn.com/sports/m-...skbl-body.html

                      Lots of Jr. on this years team.  They have some height that will also be back when the Jackrabbits come to town.  Wins over Washington St., Hawaii, SMU, Boise State, and they played USC close.

                      Should be fun next year.  Can't wait to see the rest of the schedule.

                      Go State!

                        I saw the Fresno State-Boise State game here last month. I wasn't that impressed with WAC basketball until I saw the Fresno State team. They're well coached and play smothering defense. The Jacks will have their hands full when they play Fresno next season.

                          Smothering defense is right! I see Fresno beat Washington State 46-29 earlier this season.

                            Hey, just realized something . . .

                            I'm savoring the thought of the Butler Bulldogs playing in Frost Arena....and taking on the Fresno State Bulldogs in their shiny new arena.

                            Hmm...can Drake and Gonzaga be far behind?  Georgia?

                            Go Jacks, beat them Bulldogs, whoever they are!

                              Re: D I opponents

                              While I was watching the Mid-Con. game of the week something kind of crossed my mind about future D-I opponents.  Perhaps while Fred has been setting up football games he may also be talking to his counterparts about basketball.

                              The Argus reported about our 2004 and 2005 football schedule.   In releasing this fall's slate, SDSU also teased its 2005 schedule by revealing four already-set games against I-AA opponents:

                              • At Northern Iowa on Sept. 17, 2005;

                              • Home against Cal-Davis on Oct. 8, 2005;

                              • Home against St. Mary's on Oct. 22, 2005;

                              • And home against Georgia Southern on Oct. 29, 2005.

                              Stiegelmeier also said a tentative agreement has been hashed out for 2005 with Valparaiso in Indiana.

                              If you look at some of those schools, they would be great basketball opponents.  Valpo has done big things in the NCAA tournament.  St. Mary's has received votes in the Mid-Major poll and almost beat Arizona this year. GSU is ranked #12 in the Mid-Major.  UNI is also a quality team.  Their game against Indiana St. is on Fox Sports Net right now (the next game after the Mid-Con Game of the Week).  I'm not saying that Fred has had talks with any of these schools, but wouldn't it be great to have Valpo, GSU, UNI, St. Mary's and other at our place.  Our success scheduling football games my help us get quality opponents for or Basketball program. It may also explain why we are playing some of these guys in football (Valpo plays football in the Pioneer Leauge, a leauge that dosen't offer scholarships)  At least I hope so.

                              Go State!

                                Re: D I opponents

                                Update on Fresno State -- I watched the opening round game of the WAC tourney between Boise State and Fresno State.  Fresno State did not look good.  The Bulldogs went into a tailspin late in the season after three players (who accounted for over 50% of their offense) were suspended in February.  All three players were gone for the remainder of the season.

                                Things look pretty gloomy for the Bulldogs. Here's an excerpt from an article on one of the suspensions:

                                "Ray Lopes is looking at a fork in the road that could very well determine his future at Fresno State. Lopes’ first four recruits have possibly all met with unimpressive ends to their careers. Rolando Todd is already gone from the program for academic failures and for rumored drug use. Woods and Major both await their fate as the serve indefinite suspensions. Pettis’ season is over at the very least and common sense tells you that his career is over at Fresno State. That’s 100% of his first recruiting class failing to finish their careers in uniform. Nobody will be impressed with numbers like that! Also, a local high school hero junior college player-of-the-year had his scholarship offer revoked because bad math and an NCAA ruling allowed you to award too many scholarships for the 2004-05 season. In the process of revoking that scholarship, the best junior college coach in the state will no longer send players to Fresno State even though he plays in Fresno State’s backyard. Maybe a pattern is starting to develop."
