    Re: Belmont

I don't mind the clock being stopped until the ball is touched in bounds, I just think it's weird that they don't count off the 5 seconds for inbounding it once it's started to roll. It must be because at that point the ball is fair game for either team, whereas when an inbounder is holding it the other team can't get to it at all.

There would be a lot of 5 second calls if they changed it. How often do you see a team throw it out to the top of the key as it's getting close to 5 seconds? That pass out to the top can take 1-2 seconds.

        Re: Belmont

Went to the game at Frost yesterday:

Jake Bittle: I could not believe how much better he made the Jacks yesterday. Defensively dominant. 6 steals, gets out on shooters, really really physical, seems to be contagious for everyone else on the team. Offensively 19 points, finally provides us with someone who can penetrate off the dribble, very strong for a guard and posted up on Belmont's guards with success multiple times, took care of the ball(1 turnover). He provides us with certain skills that nobody else on this team does.

Cody Larson: Looks more comfortable down low. He's starting to finish and looked like a guy that teams are going to have to double when he gets the ball in the post. That is going to open things up for our shooters.

A lot of renewed hope watching the game yesterday.

the opposing coach should recognize that and put at least one back to challenge the inbounds and make them pick it up.

            Re: Belmont

The Belmont coach noted in the post-game press conference that the Jackrabbits are a good team and played like they wanted to win it more than his team. While that's a cliché we often hear after games, it was very true in this case. Not so much a case of Belmont giving up but the Jackrabbits were absolutely bent on getting that W. We played with a lot of emotion -- under control, mind you -- and that was part of what Bittle really brought to the game. We had the grit and determination Nagy's been looking for. AND, we finally hit our shots (and then some: 57+%).

It was fun to be in Frost yesterday.

              Re: Belmont

First live game I've seen this year. Wow I forgot how much better live games are versus TV. You just get such a better feel for the team and how everything is going down. I like how Nagy is mixing in some zone defense here and there. And I don't see how we can't be as good as we were the last few years. Assuming we stay healthy, we need Bittle to play like that and for Larson to keep working around the rim. Those two can offset the loss of Wolters imo.

One thing I see is that we are winless on the road this year. 0-6 and we have 5 straight road games coming up against challenging teams yet beatable teams. So wut we gonna do with it ?!

5 second rule is designed (I think) to reward a stellar defensive effort. Not within the "spirit" of the rule to apply it to the clock delaying tactic Bozmaniac describes.

I've been waiting for a defender to dive for and get the ball at about half court when the offense lets it roll like that. It's going to happen someday and I'm gonna love it.

I don't know how to link an article and post it on the website, but on TWCC.com, there is an article on the top 10 sleeper teams in the country. Ranked #5 is Iowa. Number 4? BELMONT. Congrats on a good win
