He had 10 points, all in the second half, but I agree. He's been really struggling so far, but he's a good shooter and will figure it out. I wish he would post up more because he's tall for a guard. Oh well, nice to have a win tonight. Need to beat Lehigh tomorrow to get some confidence when they go west.

One of the biggest differences from last year to this year is that last year the Jacks had a one on one player in Nate Wolters that could break down the defense and find open shooters or finish at the lane and make plays. This team doesn't have that dynamic, but it doesn't mean that this team can't be good enough to the win the conference.

By the end of the year, I expect the offense to be ran through Larson. Good passer, a quick leaper, athletic and he has the ability to hit the midrange and the 3 as well. He is just getting used to being relied on. He has gotten better every game and I am pleased by his progress.

I think having Cody Larson on this team is going to be a big impact. Soon we will be saying "Nate Who?".

I know Larson had about 4 turnovers last night but he is a force in the paint that has not been there since Cervney played, and Cody exceeds Cervney by miles in talent. He presents himself as a rugged player on the floor, and watch out Marshmellow, aka Marshall Bjorkland, those inside buckets will not come easy this year.

No doubt Cervany was very good inside player. Its hard to compare now that we are D1. It probably not fair to compare. Can imagine comparing Kent Hyde, who is another story, but from way back in the 1950's? Not fair either. Not many of us remember Mr. Hyde, but he was force to contend with in his day.

I can see now how Iowa and Florida did not hesitate to sign Larson. I did not know he had that much talent, and he can handle the ball if he has too. That was something Kent Hyde could not do, but inside he was a monster.

Also was impressed with the Alaska kid Devine, give him a few more games, and he will be earning his keep and more.

I am not worried about this team, eventually will be doing great things.

I know that Coach Nagy wants to make sure the players are humble as he complained about a few early shots. These guys can look fairly sharp against the Howard team. The ball movement throughout the shot clock did open the low post a number of times. It was a bit out of character for Nagy to bring Jacobsen in early to find a shooter that could put in a shot.. It seemed like that opened the gates some for other combinations. Devine shows he can be aggessive on both ends. Broman shot 3-7 at long range. Carlson had only 1 turnover. If Heemstra can convert a couple of 10-12' jumpers, we will have Fiegen's points covered. Larson and Dykstra provided about half of the points and rebounds. If we can continue the improvement against Lehigh and beyond, the TEAM should have a couple of upsets during the Summit play.

Re: GDT: SDSU vs Howard (Legends Classic)

Was good to get the win last night...
my .02 for what it is worth...
I agree I see Larson becoming a beast for us... as poor as we have played in some games, honestly, we have been in a position to win in every game despite being cold as a team shooting. Our shooting improves to an acceptable level and we would win everyone one of them.

You can see the team chemistry building every game.

I liked that Nagy gave Jacobson and Hostman minutes last night when we went cold(er) on the floor. Jacobson coming in and stepping up and nailing a three was huge. It stopped the momentum Howard was building and you could actually see the players on the floor relax a bit and everything got a step quicker. It was like they all went, ok, we made one, lets go. Nagy needs to do this more when we are struggling, as many have pointed out he sometimes forgets he has other players on the bench.

I like that Larson and Dykstra are becoming consistent double, double guys. Who in the Summit is going to be able to stop them when they are clicking? Add in the fact that Hemstra sees the court so well, his passes from the top of the key are finding open guys, he would have 5-7 assists a game if our shots had been falling in the 40-50 percent range instead of 20-30. He really opens the game up for us, because he draws one of their bigs up the lane and clears it out for everyone else. Add in the fact that we have Devine coming off the bench and in limited playing he is giving us big blocks and hustle down low is huge. The more he plays the more the speed of the game is going to slow down for him and he is going to be in position to not get called for some of those fouls on blocks where he was a half second behind the play. In my mind he needs to be getting 10-15 mins a game minimum during ooc to get the feel for the game, because we all know that the Summit teams are going to try to get our bigs in foul trouble to get them out of the game (only way they are going to be able to stop them)... having Devine behind them ready to stop in and play is going to become more and more important.

Chad and Brayden's shots are going to start falling and honestly, I see Broman developing into a 10-14 pts a game player as well.

PG play is different without Nate (duh right?) but Howard, while young, had very quick pgs and I thought we did ok minimizing the turnovers, we had some sloppy wtf moments, but for the most part the guards took care of the ball (how huge is having Jordan be able to handle ball against a full court press?) Getting Bittle back (if we do) for conference will be big. However, if we are not going to get him back, I would like to see some of the younger guards get some playing time with our starters. There will come a game where because of how fouls are being called we just need to know that they can come on the floor and not be rattled. The time to do that is now, when, while the games matter, they are not going to hurt us come tournament time. One point about our guard play, at the moment our guards are too content to pass the ball around the perimeter and wait for the guys inside to get open. They need to attack the rim a bit forcing D's to play honest and give them that step. That in turn will open up the outside a bit, which will open up the inside... etc...

I really don't think we are that far away from being a good team. By the end of the year if things progress the way I think they will, we are going to be a very scary team for anyone to play. In a way I am glad we got the win streak off our backs, was it nice, it was freaking amazing, but as a player I have to imagine that added a ton of pressure to games, as well.

I like the idea of being able to say "Nate who?" because it means that the team will be doing some incredible stuff. I'm on record for believing these guys will be tough come tournament time. I still can't imagine ever saying that though. This team will be different for sure.

Two things happened last night that are really good:
                    1. Cody Larson entered beast mode. That should give him a ton of confidence going forward and when he plays like that it can make us a special team.
                    2. Broman finally got the lid of the bucket. After he hit that first three you could see his shooter mentality come through. He started looking for his shot. Should be a boost to him moving forward.

The Jacks were ahead in every state except shooting percentage and 3-point shooting percentage. The shots aren't falling yet. I saw a lot of guys pass on open shots last night and Nagy was all over them too. Jordan in particular past on a few. But there were others as well.

Hey, it's a win and a small step forward. Need to bring a better effort tonight to beat Lehigh.

Let's do it! BTW- weak crowd last night. I know it's a Monday but the crowds so far have been disappointing IMHO. At least those that were there got into it a little bit when Cody and Anders did some good things.

He should be recovered from the injury(bone chip?) from the summer. He has been on the floor for a couple minutes late in the game. He passed on an open 3 last night while he was in the game.

And Nagy got after him for not letting it fly. Happened right in front of coach.

I do like to give credit to the opponents when they do something good. No 11, Daniels was unreal in some of those shots. For being only 5' 11", he sure found ways to get his ball to go through the net against Dykstra and Larson both.

IMO. Heemstra is our best Passer, and should be running the pint once the ball is taken down court. And if you haven't noticed this fact, go and watch his body of work from last year.

During chat last night Terry.V. said that Nagy told him Donlan has to learn to play hard all the time.
