Breakout Player for 2013-14

CBS Sports wrote a feature on players that are poised to have a breakout season in 2013-14. The criteria is that the player had to average less than 8.5 ppg.

With that said, which Jackrabbits player will break out? Will any of last year's redshirts or incoming freshmen break out?

No idea why I'm feeling this, but I think Heemstra will be better than most people think and will have a Pekovic like improvement.

Heemstra really turned it up late in the season. Had a great game against WIU in Brookings.

Agreed. That's why he played so many minutes in the Michigan game. Oh wait.............

I think you may be right. Picking Heemstra seems a little 'contrarian' but next year's team will have an entirely new look on the court and Heemstra will be a key to our success

We might have used his pitching arm yesterday. Heemstra has always been productive IMO. He was key to a number of wins this past season, and this no doubt will continue.

Carlson showed some flashes as scorer last year (the Michigan game being the most obvious). Hopefully Bittle will be able to handle the ball so we can find out if Carlson can continue to grow as a scorer. I also think Heemstra is going to make a big jump in numbers. He'll have to stay out of foul trouble to do it, though.

I'm going to go with Zach Horstman. He should finally be healthy and has some serious athletic ability. With more playing time I can see him getting into a much better rhythm and be a real spark on both the offensive and defensive end of the floor.

It's a huge understatement to say that we need some guys to step up with Wolters moving to the next level. The talent is there to have just exactly that happen. I'm always an eternal optimist but if things go well, there's a chance that next year's team could be better than this year. We will be deeper, more athletic, and still very experienced. The key will be how balanced we can be. There will probably be some early struggles as we get used to life without Nate but once they get used to their roles it should be a lot of fun!

If Bittle ends up meeting the breakout criteria then we will be a very good team. His defense will be a big plus.

I'm thinking Horstman along with SUPERBUNNY for basicly the same reasons.Also,would be fun to watch him get on a tear this year,very athletic.

Matt Donlan or Connor Devine. I suspect most followers of the Jacks expect that Marcus Heemstra will have a big year, and he's likely to deliver. But that wouldn't be surprising. SDSU needs a surprise from Donlan or Devine. Both seem capable of delivering. It would be great to see Ruben Silva or Joshua White contribute, too.
