Re: Summit League Tournament Championship - NDSU

    Basketball related thoughts:

    - We had a LOT of jumpers that were great looks that were half way down that just didn't drop.

    - Braun is such a good player. Was really impressed.

    - NDSU also impressed me with the way they refused to quit. We had so many plays and runs where we could have busted it wide open, but they just kept coming back.

    - Nate played really great defense. The steals were obviously good, but he did a great job of staying in front of LA and then Braun at the end.

I'm probably forgetting some stuff, but I'm still coming down off the high.

Re: Summit League Tournament Championship - NDSU

After enjoying that win and going home...and of course watching the DVR'd version. Valvano said that the Summit is one of the fastest rising conferences in college basketball and if you haven't watched it you have been missing out. That makes a simple South Dakota guy's heart swell.....just look at that crowd in our little state. An empty arena would be embarrassing for our league...let's keep that in mind in the future when maybe our ladies and gents aren't playing. I saw some of the other conference championship games on the highlights. Looked like they were being played in a high school gym. Let's keep this league together and come out of all this realignment crap even stronger!

Great job Jacks(and USD) on representing our state. Great Job to USD, NDSU, and SDSU, and respective fanbases on representing OUR Summit conference!
With fans like this who needs enemas.....

Kick some ass in the dance. Try and snag a win for the Summit.

That said, I don't think the Summit is a rising conference. Everyone who follows the Summit closely knows all of us are just praying for a better opportunity.

        -Wolters is good.
-Braun looked great tonight for us.
-Brown needs to get better on offense so that it isn't a 4 v. 5 like someone wisely stated above.
-Can't wait for next season, we got a senior loaded team next year in Fargo.
-Summit tourney atmosphere is obviously good if SDSU is relevant considering how close you folks are to Sioux Falls. Would love to land that in Fargo....will never happen.

Yeah. It sure sucks that SDSU has to win a title in front of a sold out house full of fans.

So this is a stat I got from ESPN

              Nate Wolters
with a big performance in a big game, clinching an automatic bid. 27 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals - a line that's only been done three times previously in a conference tournament game since the turn of the century. Only one other player in the last 15 years has had as many as 25 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals in a conference CHAMPIONSHIP game.

Most of these Bison fans remind me of Cub fans, "you just wait until next year." How's that working out for the Cubs?

I know there are many over on Bisonville who aren't happy with Saul's coaching. But I would like to compliment him for being a class act after the game. Watched him go through the handshake line and gained some respect for him in seeing how he handled a tough loss.

Braun is tremendous. He just glides and covers an extreme amount of court and gets to the hoop when it doesn't look like he should be able to make it. The Bison will be very good next year, true. This was our year and I give tremendous credit to the Jackrabbits for handling expectations and putting together a solid season and tournament. I'm glad they had fun celebrating, but now I'm sure that they have turned the corner and are preparing to win in the NCAA tourney.

That was a fun day in the Arena!

                      - Wolters was just too much for the Bison. It felt like they were "controlling" his scoring and forcing him to pass, yet he finishes with 27 points. His steals were big also.

                      - Dykstra and Fiegen were huge on the inside. Dykstra had some big rebounds and Fiegen killed them with some big shots. Bjorklund was barely a factor last night thanks to our inside D.

                      - White did not have his best offensive game but without his hot shooting Monday we would have been watching this one on TV. His knee seemed to be bothering him last night too.

                      - Carlson recovered from chasing Frank Gaines around Monday. He had a couple of big shots that stomped Bison rallies into the ground.

                      - It was good to see Bittle getting trusted with some decent minutes. He seemed to look comfortable out there, which is a great sign for next year.

                      - Great job by the student section and the band seemed to be a lot more vocal for the whole tournament as well. You won't find a better atmosphere at a SD sporting event.

First off, Bittle is going to be a tremendous defender. He already is very good.

Secondly, the Bison caught a break when Bjorkland hit Dykstra in the face. It wasn't a closed fist punch, but it WAS to the head. With the emphasis the NCAA has put on plays like that this year that could/should have been two shots and the ball. I don't think their was intent to hurt him, but that doesn't matter for a flagarant 1.

The ball was by Dyskstra's hip....no where near his face.

On Braun being the only Bison in double figures:

You can't overcome all that on your own. Though Wolters has multiple times this season

just finished watching the game online, what a battle, it was great in person, so glad I was there, but really enjoyed listening to the play by play too.

I bet Jordan has a black eye today, it looked on his freethrows that it was already getting dark.
