Excellent points, especially during the years referred to above. Nagy preferred to get out and push the ball, take early shots, and take risks on defense. I remember the way he would rotate in 5 guys at a time (God, I wish we had those problems today!). The focus was never on defense. That catches up with teams when it comes to post-season play. I don't buy the excuse that a single player can beat a better team on any given night, especially not when the season is on the line. We were the better team both of those games. Metro went on to win the championship that year and it should have been us. Damn!!

Enough of the past, this year and in the future at the DI level we need to defend the 3-point line. Zone defense does not allow you do to this, however, this current team is so depleted in talent and quickness, we have no option but to play a lot of zone. Teams will score a lot from beyond the arc and that will lead to some tight games against underdogs and some blowouts against better teams.

      Re: Shooting woes

A lot of 3's finding there way home tonight for UW-M. Not many shots falling for the Jacks. The jitters can't be blamed.

In other words, the shooting problems are a reflection of better defense at the DI level, lack of our guards ability to create open shots and find players when they are open, and a deficient talent on the current men's team.

As Texas_Jack said before, patience will be the key this year.

very few shots from last night's game were of the non-forced variety. We had a couple of open looks at 3's, but the majority of our shots were hurried with a hand in our guy's face. Tough D will do that to you. However, asside from 10 or so open looks from 3 point land, UWM was generally shooting with a guy in their face as well. They just had some athletes that we couldn't stop. Ed McCants is the real deal and will probably play in the NBA soon.
