OTOH, the comprehensive academic reporting and strict Title IX mandate have arguably made all the regental athletic programs better.

I would argue that even the bar on increasing student fees to fund athletics is a prudent measure.

Title IX!?! It was created with good intentions but is terrible and is the reason why some sports get cut, mostly wrestling programs at the D1 level. Title IX is a joke and there needs to be a new and updated measure. Title IX is doing the best it can to get rid of wrestling programs in D1 schools.

The more teams that make it from your conference the more money you receive. You receive money units for each game played and how many games are won. SDSU will receive if the only Summit team will be around $256,00 for the first round game, which is shared by the league with SDSU receiving the last portion of this unit. In the Sunday Argus front page.

Whoa! Watchout for major thread highjacking! (And, witness, make sure you're writing your check supporting the wrestling program.)

The $250k is the total share paid to the conference by the NCAA this year. According to the article, SDSU will receive "the largest portion" of that, but I'm not sure what that means, really--I'd always assumed that the tournament share was split equally between the conference schools, but I suppose it makes sense for the school that actually makes the tournament to get a bigger cut.

the way it was explained to me, and it varies a bit from each conference. But you earn a share for each game you play. the money goes back to the conference and it is divided among the teams in the conference, but you add 1, so if there are 8 teams, you divide it by 9, and the team that went gets 2 shares where everyone else gets 1.

So if SDSU plays 1 game, you divide the share by 9, SDSU would get 2/9'ths where everyone else gets 1/9th

Haha. I wasnt highjacking the thread but title IX should never be mentioned as a vital part of athletics. O and I think I pay my fair share through univeristy fees and it's more than money it's also scholarships. I'm done ranting now about how terrible Title IX is. Anyways back to the thread

It will be amusing this week to see how many D-I-move opponents try to take the "I was really for it all along" line.

C'mon, guys, eat your crow while it's warm and get it over with. Just say you were wrong, and those of us who never hopped off will make room for you on the bandwagon.

I don't think so, I think that comes from the conference tournament.

And yet SDSU has wrestling and baseball and is Title IX compliant by the strictest possible measure (participation AND spending).

I'll grant you, SDSU has a slight majority of male UGs, which makes strict Title IX compliance easier.

But this is the question: If SDSU can do this, why can't other schools?

If you look deeper, I suspect you'll find that Title IX is most often used as a figleaf for 'we won't cut funding for football, no matter what.'

I think the reason wrestling is generally cut at schools is because its hard to be good at, and its even harder to make money at. If wrestling was making money at all the schools that cut it, I'm pretty sure they would find some way to keep it
