Re: Not to say we told you so, but
Couldn't agree more. When State made the jump I said that I thought it was great because it would allow my children to dream BIG here in South Dakota. Yesterday when I got home from work my boys were playing basketball against each other and fighting over who got to be SDSU. I had a huge smile on my face. They settled on my younger son being Nate Wolters for the first game and my older son being Tony Fiegen for game two. Let's all keep on dreaming BIG and you never know what might happen next week. Go Rabbits!

Re: Not to say we told you so, but
The revenue from the big dance was always a big reason in my mind why SDSU should make the move. That is something we are about to see what it will do for the institution. Seems like I read that UNI got as much as 75 million the year that they advanced to the sweet 16. It will be interesting what SDSU gets and what it will do for the Summit. We seem to care very much more about our conference opponents and what they accompolish then we ever did in the days of D2. hmmmmm, its the revenue thing. I was surprised to get some neg pts recently for making a mis-statement about NDSU and Kansas out come at the Big Dance in2009? I had forgotten how close they played the Jayhawks. What's different now is we are more established and will probably get more money than if we had not made the Big Dance. THATS A GIVEN. Its about money and that is why we made the move, but as fans we reap a number of benefits along way such as the OT championship games. We see better competition and better athletes, such as Reggie Hamilton, Morrison, Alex Young and Nate Wolters. WIU will be a challenge in the future and interesting to watch.

Doesnt money spread evenly for all confrence teams om the Summit? Only it increases with every round you go further in the tourney?"The most rewarding things you do in life, are often the ones that look like they cannot be done.” Arnold Palmer

Re: Not to say we told you so, but
This definitely solidifies the move in the eyes of the general public. Those who have paid attention already knew this to have been successful, but it is good for the general public to see this. I wonder how much this could positively increase donations? All good things for you guys.
As for the $75 million for UNI...I would really like to see something on this if anybody can find it. It seems extremely high. I thought the money "earned" was sent to the conference and then distributed to the teams in the conference over a three year period. No, I do not have a link for that. I also thought each win was worth basically a million dollars to the conference. I am by far not a knowledgeable basketball guy so my figures may be way off.

Re: Not to say we told you so, but
That is way high. The Big East as a conference got something like $23 million last year. From Forbes (sorry about the formatting):
The table below lists the Top 14 conferences as rated by the RPI for the 2010-11 season, and their revenue allocations from the afore-mentioned ”basketball fund” over the last 5 years.

Big East $12.8 $14.9 $16.6 $19.4 $23.1 $86.7
Big Ten $13.8 $13.1 $13.6 $13.8 $15.3 $69.6
Big 12 $14.4 $14.3 $15.7 $16.3 $17.1 $77.8
MWC $3.1 $3.2 $4.0 $4.1 $4.0 $18.4

Re: Not to say we told you so, but
The $75M number was in terms of exposure and marketing. UNI estimated they received a net benefit of $75M from their sweet 16 run, not that they earned that much.
I believe it was in an article written by TV earlier this week. Or maybe it was Stu, I can't remember."All I know is what I read on the message boards."
"Oh, well, there's your problem, then."

Re: Not to say we told you so, but
I think KUlawjack is right. That $75 million figure included the assumed value of all the media exposure that UNI recieved.
Think about it from an exposure standpoint. Do a search for "Jackrabbits" at Google news today. Look at all of the newspapers etc. that are running AP (and some original) stories on SDSU's NCAA berth. I heard the Jacks mentioned on various sports radio programs all day yesterday. There will be a lot more to come over the next 7-8 days. How much would it cost to pay for a similar amount of media exposure? Imagine how that increases with even a single upset in the tourney - not to mention a run like UNI made.

I've noticed that in previous years, there was always a bit of an indulgent snicker in the voice of national media types in the brief and infrequent events that they discussed SDSU. That snicker seems to be gone now, replaced by something you might even describe as bemused affection. You can't buy that."I think we'll be OK"

Re: Not to say we told you so, but
TV has an article about national media attention in today's argus. In it he also talks about recruiting and how "a few recruits have even reached out to SDSU since its landmark victory". Will this tournament appearence get us a player that would have otherwise gone elsewhere? Just one kid can end up making a big difference down the road.
