We continue to have the best "efficiency margin" as computed by Summit Madness. ORU #2 and NDSU is #3.

Good analysis...scroll through the 1/22/12 entries and note SDSU best in turnovers, NDSU worst along with some other interesting stats and perspective.

SDSU's success this season can be attributed to multiple factors but the most significant factor is this stat. Not turning the ball over is the most important difference between this year and all previous years at the DI level. This Jackrabbit team does not rebound as well as previous teams but they do posses the ball much better and that is the difference. Nate Wolters is the major reason for that. If the Jackrabbit women's team can find a point woman they'll reap similar benefits.

I disagree with that. SDSU was No. 2 in the nation in lowest turnover rate LAST year, not to mention No. 1 in the Summit League. That has largely stayed the same this year (No. 9 nationally, No. 1 in Summit). One of the biggest differences has actually been the defensive rebounding. They're the best defensive rebounding team in the Summit league right now, up from No. 7 last season. This is the first time they've been in the top-100 of D-I in defensive rebounding percentage (currently No. 65). That has been a huge contributor to their stronger defense this year -- ending opponent's positions on the first shot. Also they are forcing misses at a much better rate too. In sum, I would say we should almost expect supreme ball control after what we saw last year, but the best thing that has happened in comparison to last year is a complete team effort on the defensive boards.

Excellent point. I did not know the stats from last year, certainly previous to last year the turnover rate seemed much higher. Where does SDSU stand in overall rebounding? To what would you attribute the improvement in defensive rebounding? I'd say its a combination of improved defense overall. I think the reduction in turnovers can be cited as a contributor to the improved defense and defensive rebounding. The stats suggest this team is a better rebounding team than previous years and I'm a little surprised by that.

I think the 3 point defensive percentage is also another big swing. Teams murdered us from behind the line last year and this year it's been better.

I was going to say the same thing. Nagy also pointed this out last week at the Stater's Luncheon in SF.

              I agree with this.

Obviously everyone has played better perimeter defense this year, but Brayden has been like a blanket on opposing teams' top shooters. Travis Bader was 0-3 from deep and only manage 3 points while Mike Felt was was 0-4 with only 2 points.

I was surprised to see the defensive rebounding percentage numbers too because SDSU lacks that 10 rebound per night kind of guy. But the team just gets solid all-around rebounding efforts from the team.

The 3-pt defense is world's better. 32 percent allowed right now versus 40 percent last year (342/345). In Summit games only: 34 percent (2nd) right now versus 41 percent (10th) last year.

All in all, right now SDSU has one of the better defensive efficiency ranks in the league and a top-2 offense. Scary combo.
