  • Bracketbusters home game

It's like this, people . . . if you want to see a SDSU home game on one of the ESPN networks, then get yourself, your friends, relatives, casual acquaintances, and strangers you meet on the street to go to men's basketball games in Frost Arena between now and Feb. 18th when SDSU hosts its first ever ESPN Bracketbusters game.

For those of you playing at home, these are the games that we need to get maximum butts-in-seats factor for:

    Thursday, January 12: South Dakota
    Saturday, January 14: UMKC
    Thursday, February 2: Oral Roberts
    Saturday, February 4: Southern Utah
    Wednesday, February 15: NDSU

(Now, USD, ORU, and NDSU shouldn't be much of a problem, attendance-wise. It's UMKC and Southern Utah that you need to be hitting up all of your network of family, friends, co-workers and associates to show up for. It will make a difference. ESPN wants to show full, boisterous arenas. Frost Arena should be that, this year, but it won't just happen. Y'all in the Brookings area--MAKE IT HAPPEN!)

With that intro, this link via the Oral Roberts fan board to the Virginia Commonwealth fan board shows a hypothetical matchup of home Bracketbusters vs. visitor Bracketbusters, by RPI.

The interesting thing from the VCU fan board's compilation is that so many more of the home Bracketbuster teams this year are up in RPI vs. the away Bracketbuster teams. On a sheer RPI match-up basis, they have Nevada coming back to Frost. I imagine that the Wolfpack would rather not . . .

When you put on that jersey, the name on the front is more important than the name on the back.

If Jacks can win out until Jan 30th, chances of them getting a very nice home game televised is in sight. Plus it will be a nice non conf road game next year.

According to that Bracketbuster release above, the return game would be in November or December 2013.

The game is part of a DH with the NDSU women. I assume if we end up on TV, times could change?

                Re: Bracketbusters home game

Out of boredom, I created a spreadsheet similar to the one on the VCU board mentioned in the first post on this thread. It is pretty interesting how quickly things change in terms of RPI. Over the last three days we have been 68th, 66th and currently 64th (not including the SUU game). Our positioning on the home team side of the bracket has gone from 10th to 7th. Using the formula the VCU fan uses, our potential opponent over the last 3 days has gone from Drake, to UC-Santa Barbara to Indiana State. It will be interesting to see how things change with the SUU game and hopefully a victory over an Oral Roberts team that sits at 68th.

On a side note, SUU came into last nights game rated 276th. They had a 5-7 Division 1 record against a schedule that was ranked 337th out of 344 teams. They certainly looked better than that last night.

This kind of speculation makes me nervous......

                    Re: Bracketbusters home game

Let me calm your fears, NovaJack. My post didn't make any predictions or such about current or future success. It purely talks of a chart that shows where we line up for the bracketbuster game at this moment. I want to see us bring in a team that we normally wouldn't see on our schedule, and also I'm interested in whether we could attract a TV game since that seems to be the only way I am able to see them. In fact my comment at the end about SUU indicates some of the inaccuracies of placing too much faith in RPI.

If you are interested in speculation about RPI I will throw some your way. I don't think we have seen our last bad loss of the year, we still come out flat far too often.....and there of plenty of power conference teams that are below us in RPI due to a weak OOC schedule. That will change as they get into the meat of their conference schedule. That is about as close to speculation as you will get from me.

Besides, I am pretty sure that none of my previous 138 posts have caused us to win or lose a game........unfortunately it is only when I'm in attendance that we lose(4 in a row).

Assume we won't see you in Frost this season, NebraskaJack?

If it guarantees wins, I'll definitely stay away.....especially the conference tournament!

As of 1-15-12 our friend from VCU has us playing UC Santa Barbara. As of the 15th we would be the #10 game. A match up of RPI #78 vs.#115. ESPN will broadcast 11 games on ESPN, ESPN2, & ESPNU. They will have two more games on ESPN3. For a total of 13 games televised nationally.

As of today, it would be the #9 game against Drexel. In the last week, the potential matchup's have varied from Indiana State, Buffalo, UC-Santa Barbara, Nevada and now Drexel. It is kind of wild how everything shifts from day to day.

I'm going to throw it out there and guess that SDSU plays a Missouri Valley team. Why? Because they have Southern Illinois, Drake, Witchita St. and maybe even UNI (their pretty good) who would create a solid mid-major game. I'm guessing that the MVC who is one of the larger conferences in this event has made it known they don't want to travel very far.

                              My official guess is Drake
