  • Re: Naters Gonna Nate

If Oral Roberts was not leaving the conference I'd say Morrison would win it easily. Just because generally the conference champ's best player generally wins that award. The problem is I feel as if some schools are upset that ORU is leaving and would not want to give an award to one of their players because of it. Because of that I think Nate wins.

Wolters will win the POY and Nagy will get COY. They are both deserving and the league will not vote any post season awards for ORU the year they are leaving.

I think the interesting vote will be women's player of the year.

The POY awards are announced sometime next week.

As for women, It'd have to be Luper although Hegge is in consideration

Not that I don't hope that Nate will get POY, I do hope so and think he will, but I hope it's not just because DoMo's team is leaving the conference.

ORU performing within' the league THIS year.

The players themselves have no control over what the school decides to do conference wise, why punish them for it.

If be surprised if Luper doesn't get it.

As mentioned earlier, DoMo may get it over Wolters by virtue of ORU winning the regular season. (oh, and he's pretty good, too.)

Dom and luper were probably hands down to win when the year started and as good as nate and hamiliton have been dom didn't do anything to lose being the front runner and honestly wolters numbers are better but didn't blow him off the top kind of numbers but close. My guess is luper but hegge has an out side chance but being the new kids who can't make the summit tourney my guess is she gets snubbed a few votes. Also see sunny getting some good votes too.

Nate does have overall numbers that actually blow your mind away. Only player in D1 to average 20+pts 6+ast and 5+reb. Thats happened what 4 or 5 times? Jacks also split with ORU this year and are the second and not too far away from ORU. I think Nate deserves it/wins it. Dom didn't lose it but Nate won it.

I suppose it all comes down to how the voters view the award. I worry that DoMo's flashy play will win it for him. Some nights, he's amazing. Other nights... meh. Nate's consistency might not help him with some voters. Just another 22, 8 and 5. Ho-hum.

Nate is NOT FLASHY. He will not win on style points. However, he is so deceptively quick. Doesn't look quick, doesn't seem to move quick, but before you know it, the ball is stolen, and he has a lay-up, free-throws, or both. He is THE FLOOR General, and he leads by example. Nate is likely to get the opportunity at the next level. Because of his leadership skills, if he can get on an NBA team that actually plays team ball, he'll do great. A Miami Heat type team of prima donna's, not so good. Nate makes the rest of the team so much better. The Buffalo.com write-up on the game captures this well:

The catalyst for an offense that boasts a surprising number of complementary pieces, Wolters found Griffan Callahan (21 points), Jordan Dykstra (9 points) and Tony Fiegen (11 points) for countless open looks off dribble penetration, allowing South Dakota State to respond quickly to any offensive flurry by Buffalo

Has the Summit ever had the leading scorer in the nation before?

I have to think Hamilton leading in that category will help his cause for player of the year ALOT. Him and Nate are tied for player of the week honors I think.

It is going to be interesting to see who wins this year's award, a case could probably be made for 3-5 guys.

My opinon for POY is the guy with the best #'s win. But I'm old school. I think Sutton has the best record so he get's coach of the year. How can you be coach of the year if your team didn't win the conference. I.E AJ should be coach of the year in WBB.

Disagree with Coach of the Year. If you are the clear favorites to win the conference and you win the conference but split with the second best team how are you the best coach if you split with the second best team and did what you were supposed to do with the talent that you had. Coach of the Year should be what coach did more with less and whose team outperformed the preseason prediction and became a solid contender. That is what Coach of the Year should be not just who has the best record. As far as player of the year. It should be down to DoMo and Nate. Even though Hamilton is the nations leading scorer, his team is third in the conference and Wolters has more rebounds, more assists, less turnovers and is the only player in D1 to have 20+pts, 6+ast, and 5+reb. DoMo is good but disappears too much like he did against the Jacks at Frost Arena and Wolters has better stats than DoMo in literally every category and having the Jacks split with ORU should help Wolters win the Player of the Year award.

Yeah, I gotta think it's between Wolters and Hamilton. Really tough choice between leading scorer in the nation and the 20/6/5 guy.

^^ And this is why Nate should win, the attitude Morrison had during the second SDSU game was ridiculous.
Though, it is player of the year, not teammate of the year...

I think it is borderline ridiculous to say DoMo disappears too much. He didn't disappear the first time we played down in Tulsa. The guy is averaging 20+ on the best team in the league. That warrants serious consideration, IMO. People have said Nate disappears, like the first half of the NDSU game. Good players aren't defined by a 5 minute stretch here or there.

As for coach of the year, I think it should go to WIU. They were supposed to be an easy win for pretty much everybody in the league, and turned into a very tough game with a top half finish.
