Luke Geiver was on fire, he scored 24.  Ben DeWaard hits a 3 pointer late for his first points of the season.  Good to see this walk-on get into the action and get in the record books.  Nice win for the Jackrabbits!

Geiver Leads SDSU Past Upper Iowa
Luke Geiver hit seven-of-nine three-point shots as South Dakota State defeated Upper Iowa 78-48 in men’s basketball Saturday night at Frost Arena.

Geiver, one of three seniors on the SDSU team honored before the game, finished with a game-high 24 points. The other seniors also made key contributions. Jared DeJong scored the first basket of the game and shared the team lead in rebounds with eight, while Brady Hokenson failed to score but led in assists with six.

Visiting UIU led for the first ten minutes, but after taking a 15-12 lead on a three-pointer by John Banks, the Peacocks were out-scored 14-0 over the next five minutes, with SDSU taking a 26-15 lead on a basket by Joe Green with 5:46 to play.

After leading 33-25 at halftime, the Jacks had baskets by Green, Ben Beran and Steve Holdren in the first 75 seconds of the second half to lead 39-25.

A three-pointer by Holdren pushed the margin to 55-35 at the 11 minute mark. SDSU’s largest lead came at the end when Ben DeWaard hit a three-pointer with 24 seconds to play.

Holdren and Beran joined Geiver in double figures with 12 and 10 respectively.

Marcus Uhlenhopp and Aaron Carter had 15 points each to lead Upper Iowa. Uhlenhopp hit 5-of-6 three-point shots.

SDSU, now 7-14, will close its home season Monday night, hosting Southwest Minnesota (7 p.m., Frost Arena). Upper Iowa fell to 4-17.

Upper Iowa led 15-12 after 10 minutes. The winning Jackrabbits (7-14) then outscored Upper Iowa 14-0 over a five-minute period to lead 26-15. Another spurt to open the second half pushed the margin to 39-25.

Steve Holdren and Ben Beran added 12 and 10 points, respectively, for South Dakota State.
Marcus Uhlenhopp and Aaron Carter had 15 points each to lead Upper Iowa (4-17). Uhlenhopp hit five-of-six 3-point shots.

The Upper Iowa game can only be confidence builder and hopefully some of the guys will take their game play to a newer level. Lets hope they stay on track for the Southwest Minn game tonight.
