KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Bruce Pearl was introduced as Tennessee's basketball coach Monday after leading Wisconsin-Milwaukee on a surprising run through the NCAA Tournament.

Pearl took 12th-seeded Wisconsin-Milwaukee to the round of 16 this year for the first time in the program's 109-year history. Tennessee failed to make the NCAA Tournament in four years under coach Buzz Peterson, who was fired March 13 after a 14-17 season. The Vols' last tournament appearance was 2001.

"I have complete confidence that he will take our program to the next level," university president John Petersen said.

Tennessee gave Pearl a five-year contract and will pay him $800,000 a year, plus bonuses. Pearl made between $275,000 and $300,000 in base salary at Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

"It's truly a dream come true. I feel like I'm prepared," Pearl said.

School officials gave Pearl a Tennessee jersey with the No. 14, marking his 14th season as a coach....

Does anybody know what Coach Nagy makes? Is it over $100,000?

Think that would require the same results at D-I as UW-M has shown over the last 4 years. Not saying Nagy doesn't deserve a pay raise, but not because someone else makes more than he does without the same results at the same level.

Nagy gets SDSU to the sweet 16 then we can talk about that big of a pay raise.

I guess my point was that SDSU will need to step up the pay if they want a Sweet 16 type of Coach (which I believe Nagy is).

I would have never guessed that the UW-Milwaukee was paying their Men's BB Coach $275,000 annually!!! I also assume within a few years with a quality coach SDSU can compete with teams like UW-MIL!!!!

Also talking to a few people today, they thought that Nagy was making around $80,000 annually. This figure was peer speculation though.

IMO Nagy could snatch up a mid-major BB job and why wouldn't he, if there is that much difference in pay.

I'm told he likes Brookings a lot, and thinks it's a good place for his kids to grow up.

Nagy makes more than $80,000...guessing $90K or above.

I've heard the same as OK, Nagy likes Brookings for his family.

The volante at usd just posted all the salaries for USD employees and Boots is around 86,700 (he is also asst. ad). I would assume Nagy is in the same ballpark. Brookings is a great town and the kids probably do love it, but a 200-300 job offer from another school could make about any town seem lovely.

Speaking of UWM I see they are interviewing Metro State coach Mike Dunlap for their coaching spot. Dunlap is 227-40 in eight seasons at Metro State.
