The girl from Mitchell Christian has some unbelievable stats. Anyone know anything about her? Mike_H, what's her story. Obviously, she's talented and must have a really nice shot. She almost averaged 30 pts/game last year and already has over 1900 career points. That's impressive as a sophmore. Does SDSU have their eye on her?

She certainly has to be a good player to put up those kind of numbers, however I hear the competition she is playing against is less than stellar.

Its is true that Jill Young doesn't play against the toughest competition. I have seen her play quite a few times. She is a terrific shooter. She has scored 45 or more points 3 times I think in her career. I think she would do alright at SDSU.

I know nothing of the young lady from Mitchell Christian but her stats seem to suggest that she has talent.

From what I seen from Coach Nagy, and Johnston too, the past few years, they seem to spend a great deal of time at AAU meets, All-star camps etc watching for potential recruits.

I think they only go to high school games where they have evaluated the  particular athlete and her skills have influenced the coach to be definitely in the offer making mode.

I think  what this young lady can do on videos and personal observation during a basketball all star game or tourney would matter much more than her high school's schedule.  The schedule is something that the potential student athlete would have much control over.

With SD now having open enrollement, they can go anywhere they want, but it can be costly to households and maybe disruptive.  Living in Sioux Falls has an advantage here, but I think the SD legislature may have passed this law for the wrong reason if its strictly for student athletes to market their skills. How about getting a course of study not offered in their home district?

Some times athletes from small schools are missed particularily if they are not part of an all star team and they dont take the time to send out their video to a perspective college(s).

My hunch is that Aaron Johnston is well aware of this athlete and she may have too much raw talent, or talent that she has does not exceed those that have been recruited so far.  Recruting especially in basketball requires tough choices by coaches. Its real easy for fans to ask "How come............was not recruited?

There are always athletes that seldom get a good look or consideration, and maybe its because they have not marketed their skills properly.  It sounds ugly but it is true.  These kids should not need an agent, but its headed in that direction.

Jill is only a sophomore this year.

I am sure that if she has the speed to go along with her dead eye shooting, she will be a Jackrabbit in three years.

            That's something to shoot for.

There is a danger though recruiting a player that never learned how to pass the ball. Sometimes defensive skills or intensity is lacking as well. Don't know if that is the case with this girl. That would be a good reason to pass on her.

I did not know she was a sophomore.  I would agree that she could be a Jack in the future.  Thats a long ways off though and your reasons for a possible pass by Coach Johston are right on the mark.
