  • Wolters and Sargent against NDSU

I know that Nate has 2 years left against NDSU but these 2 players seem to struggle against them. I know there is a lot more than FG% (espically for Nate) but I went back to look at their numbers-
    2010-11
    @ NDSU Nate- 2 for 13, Clint- 0 for 10
vs NDSU Nate- 12 for 25, Clint- 4 for 17
    2009-10
vs NDSU Nate- 2 for 15, Clint- 7 for 18
    @ NDSU Nate- 3 for 10, Clint- 3 for 7
    2008-09
    @ NDSU Clint didn't play
vs NDSU Clint- 5 for 13
    2007-08
vs NDSU Clint- 2 for 8
    @ NDSU Clint- 1 for 11

That makes Nate 19 for 63 against NDSU. He had the great game against them at home this year but struggled in the other 3 games going 7 for 38.

Clint has gone 22 for 84 through his career against NDSU. He did go 7 for 18 against them at home last year but that was his best game.

These 2 players are our best scorers and they have struggled against NDSU. That's part of why we keep losing to them.

The more I think about it, the more I think we lose to NDSU because our best players (Garrett, Kai, Clint, Nate) think they need to win the game all by themselves every trip down the court. When we run people out of the gym we are moving the ball around the arc faster than teams can keep up, and Nate goes to the rim in the second half. When we play NDSU we dribble jump shoot.

Wow, you really believe that? Can't wait to hear more.

The funny thing is, you had to look up the stats to come up with this conclusion. I just watched all the games and could figure that out. Great research on your part, thanks for taking the time.

They were just offering their opinion. No need to belittle them.

            Stats are helpful.

You watch something, and think "geez, can it be that bad?"

Then you go back and you look at the stats and discover "yes . . . yes it can be that bad."
            "I think we'll be OK"

I'm done trying to analyze and I hope that by Monday morning, the team was done trying to analyze Friday night's game. Stuff happens. Sometimes stuff happens in odd streaks. Every top athlete in any sport can talk about the odd performance, the bad streak etc.

I'd take Sargent and Wolters any day over anyone on the NDSU team. Period.

Hat's off to Michael T...the guy's a warrior and he'd play -- a lot -- for any team in the league.

We're not favored to win the Summit but every team and every coach knows that we have a shot. We are a team which CAN win the Summit. I doubt any coach save for Coach Phillips, and any team, except the Bison themselves, think the Bison have even an outside chance at winning the Summit.

I view Friday night's loss to NDSU the same as I view the football loss to UW-Lacrosse. NDSU's team is not very good...highlight of their season is beating SDSU twice. Well, way to go...in the meantime, we have a conference title to prepare for.

I have refrained from saying anything after Friday's game. No need to rub salt in the wound...that's not my style. The bolded section just strikes me as sour grapes. You say that you are not favored, but you have a shot. The Bison, on the other hand, have no shot. Yeah, we are totally different teams. You guys have a shot, but we don't. C'mon man, you are better than that. I admit you guys have a better shot than us, but by how much? Seriously?

                    I like your style.

I do like SDSU's shot better than NDSU's because of their draw. They play a team that they beat twice in the 1st round. That means they should win that game. NDSU on the other hand plays a hot team that they split with in the opening round. I'm just glad that SDSU doesn't have NDSU's draw. ORU, IUPUI and SDSU(or Oakland) is as tough as it gets. SDSU just has Oakland and either ORU or IUPUI. That means I'd give SDSU a 33% better chance of winning it than NDSU.
Of course if SDSU plays NDSU for the championship, would that even out? SDSU would be considered a win for NDSU following recent history. Before and after the game at Frost, I thought this was SDSU's year but now I don't know.
This all depends on the who wins but I think most people will have the top seeds winning their first games. It also means SDSU has to play IPFW the way they played them in the regular season.

I don't see why you need to be a jerk about it. What's your theory? Lemme guess, Nagy is a terrible coach, despite his 18 wins on the year...

Sargent, like most shooters, has been streaky this year. And, when someone like Clint is struggling of course Nate is going to press the issue and perhaps get out of his comfort zone.

NDSU just seems to match-up well with SDSU. That happens sometimes. As far as chances of either team winning the tournament? IMO, it is a draw.

I don't think NDSU matches up well against SDSU. I think we try to do things we don't against other teams and when a few things go wrong early we start pressing mentally.

If they don't match-up well against SDSU, then why would the team try to do things they normally wouldn't?
