I agree whole heartedly that we need a big defensive post would make us better.

The problem is, is that lack of a wide body is what makes us so good offensively. When Dykstra is hitting threes, it forces the other bigs to come out. That opens up the lanes for our guards to either penetrate to the hole, dish off to a crashing player or pass out for an open three.

If we put a big inside, it limits our ability to drive to the hole and the flow of the offense slows down. Notice that when Oakland didn't come out to challenge our bigs on the outside, both Fiegen and Dykstra had one of their best games of the season offensively. In fact, it is disruptive enough, that during the Oakland game, when we had closed to 93-85 with 2:36 left, Oakland pulled Benson even though he had 28 points. Some of it was to put in a better ball handler to avoid turnovers, but it was also to put a quicker defender on Dykstra to avoid the 3's.

The question is....what do you wish for....better defense or worse offense? I guess its a matter of how much one effects the other's chemistry. Sadly enough, we won't know the answer to that until we have used up a scholarship.

How exciting was it to see the Jacks play the way they did Saturday night?

I've been wondering all year what their potential is and we saw it on full display against the Dons. The effort from everyone was fantastic. Dykstra played a heck of a game at both ends. Dale Moss had more energy than I have seen in a long time and that was before his EPIC dunk. Clint is feeling his shot and knocking it down. The whole team played defense with outstanding intensity. THIS LOOKED LIKE THE NAGY TEAMS OF OLD!

If they play like this the rest of the season there is only one team that can stop us, Oakland. If they would have played like that against Oakland last Thursday it is hard to say if they would have won but it would have tested them severely and found out what Kampe's boys are made of. They sure as the heck don't want anything to do with the Jacks in Sioux Falls.

FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT HAVEN'T COME TO FROST TO SEE THIS TEAM PLAY, YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON WHAT MAY BE THE MOST EXCITING BASKETBALL EVER PLAYED AT SDSU!

Keep it up men! Consistent effort will bring a consistent result and huge levels of confidence. This is going to be a fun ride!

Coach Nagy has said all along that if the team decides to play defense, they're very hard to beat. On Saturday, they played great defense.
          Holy nutmeg!

            Re: IPFW

Jacks definitely "clicked" on ALL cylinders Sat. It may have been a case of the match-ups, but Jacks stifled the Dons on D, prevented most 2nd and especially 3rd shots from occuring. And the offense was riveting, with great flow. Nate was disarmingly smooth in getting passes to open men. The inside to out was great. It was like watch the women 2 years ago.

IMHO, Oakland will still win the tourney, but the Jacks will be the team they least want to play.

Need to take down the Bison in Fargo at the end of Feb.

              Re: IPFW

We match up well with IPFW and when we match up well we are hard to beat. IPFW has no quality big men and their guards aren't has good a shooters as ours. I figured we would handle them easily and we did, great game, great win. Looking forward to the second half of the conference season, no more home losses!! An improved UMKC team Thursday, then SUU doubleheader, with the best game coming against IUPUI in Thursday the 10th.

                That dunk was awesome.

And I agree that they are a great match-up for us. Hopefully the defense continues to improve the rest of the way.

Had the Jacks shot as well from the line against ORU as they did against the Dons they would have won that game too..

For all the offensive stats we talk about it really comes down to defense and FT shooting..

                    THAT!

Everyone has nights when they aren't hitting on all cylinders. That's a rarity and almost always results in a lopsided win for the team that is "in the zone".

The key is to hit on as many cylinders as possible. My hope is that the light went on for the team and that they will be hitting on more cylinders with more frequency. The team that can win ugly is the one you have to watch out for. When a team has that confidence that they can get it done no matter what it is amazing how the level of play gets better. These guys are getting there.
