60 total fouls called. thats pathetic. and only one guy fouled out, 8 guys had 4 fouls. i hate games like that. i go to watch a basketball game not a whistle blowing contest. in the other 26 D1 games yesterday there was one game where there was 50 fouls called and a couple had 45, the rest were 40 or less and many had 30 or less. i didnt watch it so i have no idea if they were just calling it tight or if it really was a football game.

This would have been a very difficult game to watch, it sounds like the refs were out of control with the whistles. I listened to it on the radio, and there was no flow to the game, as there was a foul called on practically every possession.

With that being said, we need to improve our free throw shooting. It nearly cost us the game. The team average on the season is 70% (221-313), and that includes Griff who has made 36 of 37. If you look at the stats, some individuals certainly stand out for their poor performance at the line.

      Chad White 16-25, 64%
      Dale Moss 18-32, 56%
      Jordan Dykstra 25-39, 64%
      Marcus Heemestra, 2-10, 20%

And even Clint at 31-44 (70%). He's a senior and a shooting guard, he should be above 80%.

I watched the SUU feed and with the poor quality of the video it was hard to really see the fouls. But it did look rough under the basket. Lots of holding calls, hand checks, charges and blocking fouls. Many away from the basket and many that shouldn't have been called.

I think Nevada's coach had the same problem in the press conference after SDSU beat the Wolf Pack and most of the athletic department staff for SDSU just cringed.

Here's an article from SUU's student paper listing player's to watch for 2011. Nice paragraph on Nate.

Good find, RabbitObserver. Overall, a nice summary on top players in the League. I like the writer's style.

Was on the Minneapolis StarTribune website this morning and read the story about the SDSU v SUU game (link provided below). The story was the Associated Press story about the game.

The following stats pointed out in the story probably explains why coach Nagy expresses concern in the post-game interview about the level of our defense even in a winning effort on a long trip in a hostile environment.

"The teams put up identical shooting marks, hitting 32 of 59 for 54.2 percent. But South Dakota State sank 31 free throws to 23 for the Thunderbirds and had a 10-8 edge in 3-pointers.

Both teams also had 32 rebounds and 16 assists."

Our team hung in there and resisted two big and several small surges by SUU. Our defense was good enough to get the win but I can see why Nagy is going to pound away on the defense not being good enough. Statistcally, the game was nearly a dead heat!

LINK TO THE AP STORY ON THE 'STRIB'

The one conference loss looks more and more like a fluke.

The month of January is an important month for the Jacks. Six out of the 8 games are at home while only 2 out of 7 games in February are at home. Need to pack Frost on Sat against Oral Roberts. And there isnt any snowstorm forcast.

Speaking of packing Frost for ORU next Saturday, I have 3 reserved seat tickets that I can't use. They cost me $64 but I'd be thrilled to get $25. The seats are above the freethrow line (sect BB) in the top row. I'd hate to seem them go unused. Hopefully there will be a big crowd.

I might take you up on the offer. Let me check with my brother as it depends on whether he is going to the game or not.

I will not need these tickets, but that's a heck of deal for some fortunate individual!!!!
