  • Remaining schedule for 1st half of season...

Just some random stuff as I sit here...

Obviously we can count Mayville State as a win on Weds (NDSU beat em by 40). Then it gets tough until we get to conference play. UW-Milwaukee is at Frost and a winnable game. They are 4-5 and beat UNI, lost by 3 to Marquette. They lost to our opponent after them, Western Michigan by 12. WMU is 2-4 but they have played some decent opponents (Xavier, UW-M, Illinois, Towson). I would be surprised to see us lose to both these teams as be 7-3 when we face Central Michigan. CMU, I believe is a very winnable game that we should be able to take. CMU is 2-5 w/ wins over CSU-Fullerton and Illinois-Chicago. That would put us at 8-3 and facing the Gophers, which should be a loss. We would re-enter conference play at 8-4/0-1. Can we go 12-5 and get to 20 wins? I think so. We start out conference play again w/ 3 very winnable games (@UMKC, @SUU, vs. CC). We get all three of those and we're 11-4/3-1. I don't know about you, but 11-4 and 3-1 in conference at the halfway point is a pretty good start.

    vs. Mayville State (w 7-1)
    vs. UW-Milwaukee (L 7-2)
    at Western Michigan (L 7-3)
    at Central Michigan (W 8-3)
    at Minnesota (L 8-4)
    at UMKC (W 9-4 / 1-1)
    at SUU (W 10-4 / 2-1)
    vs. Centenary (W 11-4 / 3-1)

    REMAINING 14 GAMES:
    vs. ORU (L 11-5 / 3-2)
    at WIU (W 12-5 / 4-2)
    at IUPUI (L 12-6 / 4-3)
    vs. Oakland (L 12-7 / 4-4)
    vs. IPFW (W 13-7 / 5-4)
    vs. UMKC (W 14-7 / 6-4)
    vs. SUU (W 15-7 / 7-4)
    at ORU (L 15-8 / 7-5)
    at CC (W 16-8 / 8-5)
    vs. IUPUI (L 16-9 / 8-6)
    vs. WIU (W 17-9 / 9-6)
    at IPFW (W 18-9 / 10-6)
    at Oakland (L 18-10 / 10-7)
    at NDSU (L 18-11 / 10-8)

    PREDICTION FOR SUMMIT TOURNEY:

Would you be happy w/ 18-11 regular season, a win in the Summit Tourney and then a loss in the semi's. We'd be 19-12 for the year and 11-9 in Summit.

I would be thrilled. Especially w/ everyone save for Moss and Sarg coming back.

I was really bummed about the loss to NDSU at Frost... thought this would be the year for you guys. I think it's essential to come out and get a win over Milwaukee. Generally a good program from a good league, and you have that at home. Gotta win that one.

CMU has a really good freshman guard who might cause some trouble, but I agree that this is a more promising game than the one against WMU, which has held tight against some tougher opponents. Do you know if either CMU or WMU will return games at Frost next year? Those would be some neat home games.

CMU played at Frost last year so we are returning the favor. WMU?

I think these guys will be able to split with ORU, Oakland, NDSU, and IUPUI.

          vs. Mayville State (w 7-1)
          vs. UW-Milwaukee (w 8-1)

          at Minnesota (L 9-3)
          at UMKC (W 10-3 / 1-1)
          at SUU (W 11-3 / 2-1)
          vs. Centenary (W 12-3 / 3-1)

          REMAINING 14 GAMES:
          vs. ORU (W 12-3 / 4-1)
          at WIU (W 13-3 / 5-1)
          at IUPUI (L 13-4 / 5-2)
          vs. Oakland (W 14-4 / 6-2)
          vs. IPFW (W 15-4 / 7-2)
          vs. UMKC (W 16-4 / 8-2)
          vs. SUU (W 17-4 / 9-2)
          at ORU (L 17-5 / 9-3)
          at CC (W 18-5 / 10-3)

          at Oakland (L 20-7 / 12-5)
          at NDSU (W 21-8 / 13-6)

          PREDICTION FOR SUMMIT TOURNEY:
Too much math for me to predict.

Re: Remaining schedule for 1st half of season...

I think every conference game is winnable....that's not to say we'll win 'em all. For whatever reason, we seem to play the beasts of the Summit, OU and ORU tough, home and away. We've beat both already w/ less than spectacular teams. Heck, we're 2-1 in our last 3 against ORU and have about beat 'em at Mabee Center two of the three times we've been there. The only real team that has proved too much for us, like it or not, is NDSU. For being a team that has equal or less talent than us, IPFW always seems to play us tough. We've never (3 whole years) beat NDSU, ORU, OU or IUPUI on the road. IPFW maybe as well, can't remember off the top of my head. Hopefully we'll knock a couple off this year.

I think ORU this year is gonna be real similar to what we saw from NDSU. Some athletic, long guys (Rondtree, Morrison, Craion and even Bell-Holter) being around the rim and scrapping for alot of balls/rebs. If ORU is hitting jumpers and free throws they are gonna be lethal. OU obviously has Benson as well as Hamilton, Hudson and even Wright, a very dangerous foursome. IUPUI might have the two best guards in the conference (tho Nate Wolters appears to have something to say about that). And we've seen what NDSU can do. Anytime any of the top 5 in this conference square off it should be a great game. Can't wait as I feel this is the best the Summit/Mid-Con has been in quite sometime.

*Hopefully this is accurate as it's all off the top of my head.
