  • Looking ahead to NDSU

    1. Can somebody whose seen the men play elaborate on our chances against the Bison?

    2. Guesses on attendance?

    3. Honestly, the real reason I started this thread, will the doubleheader be on TV (as it should be)? I haven't heard anything about this.
Grumbling along and embracing my role. If I didn't care, I wouldn't care. Go Jacks!

    1. I've seen the men play 3 times but I haven't seen NDSU. I think we have a good chance, though. This team is legit. Almost everyone can shoot the three and we have some very good defenders. Dykstra is better down low than anyone we had last year. If it wasn't for 2 ridiculous 3 pointers, we would have beaten NDSU last year. I think it ends this year.

    2. 4,000+. I think people will be excited for this game, as they should. I've mentioned it before, but Saturday is my 21st birthday so I will be there and I will be loud

    3. No idea.

I think you guys have a talented team and will really give the Bisons a game. In fact, I think you win this one by 2 3-pointers.

Congrats on your 5-0 record BTW.

          Thanks ron!

What will happen when young NDSU and young SDSU play? Given the youth of each team and the rivalry, who knows? I guess the fact that it's at home gives us the edge.

I have watched us play every game this year. This team is legit. Three of our five wins are quality. EIU (beat em twice) had 19 wins last year and returned every starter. And then there was the Iowa win where, at no point in that game did we look like we didn't belong. Wolters was, easily, the best player on the floor. We have confidence, we have unity, we have depth and we have talent. With Wolters hitting his 3's (tied for 3rd in nation) and with the addition of RSFr White (who is deadly from long range) and w/ Grif getting his shot back this year, we have 4 deadly guys (other guy of course being Sarg) from long range. And guys like Aireus, Carlson and even Dykstra have shown they can hit deep shots. Yes we are a little light and not very deep inside, but the play of "gritty" guards like Grif, White, Moss and Sarg inside has helped overcome that and proved to be a matchup issue for our opponents. Ask Idaho State, who we WHACKED, how their 7'0, 6'11, 6'11 and 6'9 guys did against our "little guys".

I think, outside of Minnesota, on any given night we can beat anyone on our schedule. And yes that includes Nevada, UW-Milw and tough games like at ORU and at Oakland.

There is going to be alot of young talent on the floor this Saturday. Perhaps this rivalry is only just beginning!!!

Congrats on your win AT Utah as well ron. Best of luck at Texas Tech on Tues. We all need to cheer for our Summit foes in the non-conference portion of the season as they fight for respect for the Summit.

              Prediction: We win both.

              Preferences for the game:
              1. Standing-room only in Frost.
              2. Bison fans refrain from shouting out the name of their team at the end of the National Anthem. I don't care that they learned to say their name many years ago in response to the UND Sioux yelling out their name at the end of the National Anthem. This is D-1 -- act like it. More important: show some respect.
              3. SDSU wins both games by more than 20 points.

                Re: Looking ahead to NDSU

Bison have a little more balance inside and out. Tviedt is s great player and team leader, he would love to finish his career never having lost to SDSU. They seem to shoot well in Frost.

Our current veterans are mature enough and confident enough that the recent history against NDSU won't be a factor. Our young guys are will do what they do every game, play their best and have fun. I think with a good crowd and our current momentum SDSU wins comfortably, not in a blowout but comfortably. Like every game, we will need to shoot at least 35% from the 3-point line and compete on the boards, win the rebound battle.

This game will give us a better idea what type of team we have in the men. It will be their first real test with a large crowd. Will they be able to play as loose as they have when the crowd is 3-4,000 as they can when it is 1,000?

I am excited to find out how legit the team is...

                    Re: Looking ahead to NDSU

Terry V's Twitter tells me the games will not be on TV. Personally, I feel strongly that they should be. But it's probably a football conference championship game night for the networks. Too bad we couldn't work out something with Midco. I hope we really tried.

I would like to think there would be at least 1,500 students at the game. But, the students have proven to be fickle fans.

We have a better record against the Bison, but against lesser competition. Iowa notwithstanding, our opponents have been quite mediocre...and you could even argue that Iowa is pretty mediocre. The men's game will be telling, I suspect. If we're up just a few with seconds to play, I certainly hope we've learned to foul...with or without coach's orders.

Aaaah...good thing we're bypassing the Nevada game and going straight for the NDSU game.
The question: Nationally which will give us more recognition? Beating Nevada or NDSU? The answer should be pretty clear. Take care of business vs. Nevada than we'll talk NDSU.

Nationally? I don't think that beating Nevada is going to make anyone spill their morning coffee. However, a game against the team that we battle for recruits with and that we also fight for a conference title against is much more important.

I don't think that anyone is "bypassing" Nevada, but rather, looking forward to a much bigger game. It doesn't matter if we start talking seeds in the conference tourney, the team will take care of the actual games. Discussions are what we do..

Student section was pretty full for games against SMSU and Idaho State and those teams suck. Student section was packed for the NDSU game last year, and the team wasn't as good. Saturday night + NDSU + good men's team + attendance precedent = full student section.

Honestly, the student section has been the only good area fan-wise so far at the games that I've been to (DSU, SMSU, ISU).

I think the atmosphere will be incredible on Saturday. This team can do something special this year.

I believe there is a huge opportunity for the athletic department on Saturday. Get Frost full and put together a good show and they will come. Do a crappy job, not enough staff, no entertainment of some lame dancers and people aren't going to be as impressed. Need to impress that casual student or fan who only attends "big games" or when they get a free ticket to show up more consistently. A great atmosphere Saturday will go a long ways towards accomplishing that. Of course, winning will go even further.

Are there some things that you would specifically like to see?

Don't disagree with what you are saying but what is it that people want to see?

Personally, a halftime performance buy the SDSU Drumline always gets me geeked up.
