  • Basketball Predictions

I think that those who have participated have enjoyed the football predictions competition so far this fall. And it appears that about 100 people check in after the each post to see what is happening.  So I am wondering how much interest there is in doing the same thing for basketball.  It would be a little more complicated in that games occur throughout the week, teams will frequently play more than once a week etc.  Let me know if you are interested and make recommendations on the following.  My preliminary ideas are listed in the responses.

    What teams should be included?

SDSU men and women, NDSU men and women, who else? Since most teams play about 2 games a week the four teams above would count for about 8 games per week.  That is probably enough but we could add a few more if there is a concensus.

What is the best day for deadline on predictions?

Sunday or Wednesday seem to be the days with the fewest games.  My idea would be to post a list of games for a week at a time and to post them about a week in advance of the start of the week.  Predictions could then be made anytime prior to the start of the week.  Or if we restrict it to the SDSU and NDSU teams, I could probably post and set deadlines twice a week.  (The number of teams and number of deadlines becomes a time commitment issue on my end.)

    How to handle tournaments?

We won't know in advance who will be playing in tournaments after the first game in some instances.  For example will be playing Northern Colorado or Lipscomb after we beat Kentucky (got to think positive).  My idea would be to list both possibilities and count the predictions on the opponent that we actually play.

    Any comments or suggestions?

Let me know if you are inetested so we can see if there is enough interest to plan for this either by replying on the message board or by sending me an e-mail.

If we decide to do this, I suggest including the exhibition games which will provide time to get the kinks worked out and also raise our accuracy perctentage hopefully.  I think the first exhibition game is October 31 for the SDSU Men.

Maybe throw in a few other close matchups each week just like you did for football today? Maybe UNC since they are in the same boat?

Make it easy for you to handle though.

        R74:
maybe need to make up some odds for the basketball games, cause some of those games won't even be close.... But then again you will want people's percentage to stay high enought they stayed involved.

For exapmple Jacks +35 vs Illinois, then will a more difficult choice...

        Just an idea...

I know this is just for fun, but I think we should stay clear of points spreads, odds, etc. I don't want Rabbit74's prediction threads to even appear to be gambling.

            Re: Basketball Predictions

This is strickly a for fun prediction of who wins or losses as has been indicated from the start. We don't want it to become more complicated or the bases for any process other than the fun of competition.

              Re: Basketball Predictions

I would say that during non-conference time (Pre New Year's Day) that we pick teams that we play and are already in a conference, including UNC. Once conference time comes around (After New Year's Day) we should pick the independent teams and maybe some Mid-Con teams so we can follow that league and see what it is made of.

                I second that idea.
