  • RABID RABBITS

I don't know how many students visit this site but it is now time to set a name for the student section for years to come.  There are so many arenas that teams do not like to play at because of how loud it gets...Frost gets loud but could be so much better.  It is time for you students to start the "RABID RABBITS".  Lets step it up this year and maybe in the near future we will be hearing Richard Vitale (D##ky V) talking about the RR's on ESPN.

What does everyone else think?  The Jackfanatics was a nice try but did not catch hold.

I don't think they should be discusting but I believe they should be nonstop loud and if I may RABID!

    GO RABBITS!

    Re: RABID RABBITS

I totally agree. Let's make a name for ourselves, and let get some more school spirit going. There needs to be some kind of organization that can do some guerilla marketing type stuff and get more students out to the games. Offers for free rabid rabbit T-shirts or something. Let's get the rabbit den rockin this year.

        Great Start...
It would be interesting once they get their own identity. 8)

Looks like a cross between a rabbit and Wylie Coyote from the Road Runner cartoons?

Good point... Would you really want anything that remotely resembles a coyote in any way???

              Re: RABID RABBITS

WE cant have anything that could even be remotely associated with USDII. I think if this catches on though, that one of those fantastic graphic arts majors here at SDSU will come up with something?

It is a good start for an idea though.

              GO JACKS!

Nice artwork JBNJBQ, that looks 100% like a Coyote.

Naw, you're looking at the rear end!  Everyone knows that looks like a coyote!

                    Any other suggestions for names?

I agree that it has to be catchy, but I'm not sold on Rabid Rabbits. Good start though. Sorry that I don't have an alternative yet.

How about Jack Rabid? That could be the name of the mascot.
                        (\__/)

                          Re: RABID RABBITS

Iowa's student section is the Hawks' Nest. Purdue's was the "Gene Pool". Michigan State has the "Izzone". Our student section should be the Rabbits' Den. Yes, I know that's what some people call the arena. I call it Frost Arena, which is a great and distinctive name. No need to get cute with it.

Give the students T-shirts to wear to the games (bright yellow with the rabbit and "Rabbits' Den" on the front and "Gotta have more cowbell!" on the back in blue; give them an opportunity to meet the players and coaches; have them elect leaders who will organize team-specific cheers and will explain the cheers to the students; have a newsletter for them (show them how to turn a basketball into a mask; how to blow up paper bags and smash them at tipoff, etc.); feed them before a game or two. This isn't rocket science. That's how you build a student section.

By the way, there's nothing cool about a "rabid" anything. Makes me think of a skunk and some poor kid getting shots in his stomach.

                            Re: RABID RABBITS

It has nothing to do about being COOL..it is about a identity.  By the way look up rabid and you will see it doesnt just mean a sick scunk. :-[

And as far as the Rabbit Den monicker for Frost, understand that it is not taking the place of Frost.  Again it is only an identity of the full arena when a game is going on.  The Worlds Largest Rabbit Den

Now, when I suggested Rabid Rabbits, that is all I was doing...I was looking for suggestions hopefully from the student body since they are the ones that will carry this on. ;D

Trust me...I wasnt looking for an answer from an Alum or fan on the north side.  I have plenty of experience watching them sit in their seats most of the game unless prompted to get-up. :'(

Just so you know, I will not argue my last point any further...just read my tag line. :-X

What in the heck are you talking about? You asked for suggestions, I gave you one. And here's a scoop for you: Some of us on the "north side" have been at other universities and have been members of named student sections (Iowa Hawk's Nest, 1997-200). Oh, and some of us have also been members of the Jackrabbit student section when it included many more "rabid" fans than it does now, for whatever reason.

When you ask for ideas and you don't like what you hear, it's probably not a great idea to make judgments about the people who answered your request.

You mentioned identity. If the 'identity' you have chosen has negative connotations (sick children, skunks with foaming mouths) you probably should look for another identity. That's basic branding, which you would learn about if you take one of my classes at SDSU.
