Kind of fun to see SDSU with a #1 beside it for an RPI ranking:

Actually, he has everybody at #1 for the start of the season, but what the heck--it was a cheap thrill.

Elsewhere, in his ratings page, Pomeroy has us at #329--ahead of Kennesaw State, Longwood, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Maryland-Eastern Shore, and Savannah State.

My guess is that we'll finish somewhere between #1 and #329 this year. I'm quite sure we will not finish the year as the sixth worst team in D-I.

Our 2005-06 opponent's average of 2004-2005 RPI is 167.62. As impressed as we are with our schedule, we need to realize that it's "only" an average D-I schedule. Almost exactly average, in fact.

For reference, top and bottom 2005 RPI team ranks in some conferences of interest:
    Big Sky: 158 to 310, average 247 (conference #28 of 32)
    Mid-Continent: 92 to 324, aveage 215 (conference #21 of 32)
    Horizon League: 59 to 321, average 195 (conference #18 of 32)
    Missouri Valley: 17 to 218, average 102 (conference #8 of 32)

I've said it before, one key to conference membership is to get and maintain an RPI somewhere in the 100's. The schedule affords an opportunity to do that this year, if the Jacks play well and get a bit of luck.
