Alright, I am with you now. It is the afternoon of the next day, and we still haven't heard anything about any other sport except Women's Basketball, this is very frustrating. >

Criag and Mike just reported that SDSU did sign both Anthony Cordova and Thomas Bassett yesterday. So I guess it is offical even though nothing is on gojacks.com. 8)

              It's official on Jacks.com

              http://www3.sdstate.edu/Athletics/Ne...cfm?Id=46,4665

Cordova at 6'7 220 and Bassett 6'5 240 are big physical guys who will provide the Jacks some additional strength and bulk.

So is it just me, or does 24 hours late seem kind of slow to get that information to the public? If my students tried to turn in work 24 hours late, I wouldn't accept it.

It is hard to respond to that unless one knows more details. My understanding is that an announcement cannot be made until a signed letter is in hand. If the student mailed his letter instead of faxing it, it wouldn't have been received until today and the letters cannot be signed before the I beleive 7 or 8 am yesterday so it couldn't have been mailed until yesterday.

Anxious, frustrated, excited these emotions are often confused. I think we were all more anxious and excited than frustrated. Now, I'm not only relieved to see its official but damn happy to see to kids with a lot of upside headed to SDSU!!

That's exactly the kind of detail that should be managed from SDSU's end. I'm not dogging the SI staff. I know they're very, very busy. They did get the information to the news media in time to make the afternoon paper in Brookings (and their deadline is noon or so). They just didn't bother to post it online until after 5. Odd.

Re: National Letter of Intent Signing Day

Ketty Cornemann inked a national letter of intent Wednesday to play college basketball beginning in 2006-07. Cornemann will play at NCAA Division I South Dakota State.

"Now with the decision made, we can just focus on playing for the Gazelles and not playing to look good for scouts," said Cornemann.

Cornemann joins a SDSU program that is in its second season at the Division I level. An all-state performer in four sports, the 5-11 forward averaged 11.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and two assists per game during the 2004-05 season. She ranks 19th in rebounds (277) and 21st in points (481) all-time for the Gazelles.

"Ketty has the combination of very good foot speed, good strength and good power," said SDSU head coach Aaron Johnston. "It's that combination of physicalness and strength that we really look for in athlete."

The type of athlete the Jackrabbits recruit caught the attention of Cornemann on her official visit to the Brookings campus.

"I noticed that all the girls were a lot like me," she said. "Most of us played more than one sport, were physical and very athletic."

Cornemann has matured from a raw athlete as a freshman to a veteran leader, according to Coach Pesicka.

"As a freshman, she came in with all the athleticism, but needed to be coached in how to use it," he said. "She's gone from relying solely on her athleticism to becoming a complete player. Through her three years, she's just become a better and better basketball player. Her potential is endless."

                          SDSU men sign two
                          http://gojacks.com/

South Dakota State University has signed two high school prospects to letters of intent indicating they will enroll at SDSU and participate in the Jackrabbit men's basketball program.

Joining the Jacks next year will be:
                          • Thomas Bassett, 6-5, 240, from Denison, Iowa (Denison-Schleswig H.S.);
                          • Anthony Cordova, 6-7, 220, from Sioux Falls (Roosevelt H.S.)

Bassett is a forward who averaged 17.1 points and 11.6 rebounds per game last season. He earned first-team all-conference and all-district honors. Coached by Scot Aden, he shot 57 percent from the field.

Cordova averaged 11 points and 6 rebounds per game for the 21-4 Roosevelt team coached by Bob Wilber. The Rough Riders were third in the state Class AA tournament.

Cordova was named all-city, all-conference (second team) and all-state tournament.

SDSU, in its second season of transition to NCAA Division I, will open its 2005-06 season at the Guardians Classic in Lexington, Ky., on Sunday.

SDSU's home opener will be against Southeast Missouri on Thanksgiving night, Nov. 24.

Scott Nagy is in his 11th season as head coach, with a 220-77 career record.

Very exciting news for both teams. We are getting some great athletes and a lot from South Dakota which is good to see.

I was really happy to see Nicole Helsper coming to SDSU. She is very quick and scrappy. Always good to see one of our Bobacts wearing the yellow and blue!

                              Congrats to both coaches!

That's all I need to know about Cordova to realize he has a step up on most incoming freshman. ;D
