A little blurb about the Swimming Rabbits from Thursday's Register
    http://www.brookingsregister.com/V2_...&story_id=3613 More story at Linky
Swimming & Diving With the season about 75 percent complete , the Jackrabbit swimmers have seen success in the pool this fall/winter. The women have won three of their five meets, while their male counterparts have won three of their eight meets. Both squads have only gotten better as the season has progressed.

"We've had some good swims," says SDSU head coach Brad Erickson. "We had Thanksgiving off, but the week before our men were in St. Paul and our women were in Lincoln and had very good swims, with school records on both ends."

What your coach should have been quoted saying was for the rest of the SDSU coaches to pay attention to his sport. They got their flippers handed to 'em by the "YOTES today. Ah yes, the transition to D-I in Brokings is just fine. Just don't compete with the U

You can't brag about anything else so you brag about your swimming and diving team. SIGH.

Take a look at our women's basketball team, soccer, volleyball, football. I would say we came out of transition just fine. We will see if you can say the same thing in 5 years. Hopefully your swimmers can hold your head above water.

One more thing. Probably should keep smack out of the non-smack threads. Mods will probably handle you.

Post smack in a non-smack thread again and you will be gone permanently.

          Re: Swimming and Diving update

Has anyone else noticed that on the Argus Leader website on the right hand column they list the "most recommended" stories. One thing that sticks out to me though can be seen on here on the article about the womens basketball team by Fred Oien:
          http://www.argusleader.com/article/2...0202/812170333

What is strange is on the right hand side under "most recommended stories" they have the article on USD beating SDSU in swimming as the top one on the list with 20 recommendations. However, if you notice the Q and A with Fred has 34 recommendations and isn't listed.

Furthermore the other stories are listed in decreasing order from the Top 25 AP article with 65 recommendations down to the coaches poll ranking story with 42 recommendations.

So stories are usually listed in descending order, other stories have more recommendations, and regardless of that the USD story is on top with 20 recommendations. It would seem to me the USD story was manually and intentionally placed there by someone because it certainly doesn't fit the category.

That may be a little "conspiracy theory" but I alway look at the list of recommended stories mainly because our great Jackrabbit fans always do a good job of recommending them. I almost missed the Q & A with Fred and noticed it wasn't listed in the most recommended stories. Yet the USD article which has 20 recommendations but is lower then other stories is somehow still under there and on top of the list?

            Re: Swimming and Diving update

The swimming article now has 97 recommendations. That's quite an increase in a short amount of time. Definitely seems like somebody is messing with it.

Mine still shows up as 20 recommendations. However, I did a print screen and saved a JPEG of the site showing the 20 recommendations on top and the SDSU article with 34 recommendations not listed. I will print off a copy tomorrow or email it to anyone who is curious

I did show 97 at one time because when I read it yesterday (Wed) it said the same thing.

Nice article in the Argus today about Ms. South Dakota. Yound lady from Hot Springs I think will appear with the other Ms america contestants on a short TV series.

Check it out if you get a chance.

This was in the Register a week or so ago.
                      http://www.brookingsregister.com/V2_...d=3776&page=76
When Alexandra Hoffman was younger, her friends and family knew exactly who she was.

The 6-2 athlete loved sports, knew how to handle a ball and hated wearing makeup.

But everything changed when she reached her junior year of high school.

Hoffman's mother entered her into the Miss South Dakota Teen Pageant without her knowledge . Though she never pictured herself in that type of competition, Hoffman gave it her all. She didn't win the pageant but ended up placing in the top 15.

"When I told my friends about it, they didn't believe me," Hoffman said. "They were like 'Alex, what? That's not something you would typically do.' It was not only a shock for me but for other people in my life as well."

In January, Hoffman, who is now 20-yearsold and has been crowned Miss South Dakota, will compete against 52 other women from around the nation for the Miss America crown at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

Hoffman described herself as "the tomboy of all tomboys" in junior high school.

"I was anti-jewelry and anti-makeup completely ," she said, laughing. "But in high school, things kind of started to change. I am kind of a girly athlete now, so to speak. I've been made fun of before, but that's OK, that's what I am."

Hoffman played basketball, ran track and cross-country and competed with her high school's swim team growing up in small-town Eureka. She took her passion for sports with her to college when she joined South Dakota State University's swim team, something she says she misses more than ever since being crowned Miss South Dakota.
