An updated article from the Argus (via the Rapid City Journal) in today's paper:

Rapid City native defeats Sioux Falls defending champ Pridey in SDGA event

RAPID CITY - Geoff Mead took care of business when it mattered most.

The 23-year-old Rapid City native birdied the fourth playoff hole to defeat defending champion Matt Pridey of Sioux Falls and win the South Dakota Golf Association Men's Amateur Championship on Sunday at the par-71 Arrowhead Country Club.

"I feel great, great - that's basically how to put it right there," said the South Dakota State golfer after winning his first SDGA title.

Mead (3-under-par 68) and Pridey (69) both finished at 3-under 210 for the tournament.

On the fourth playoff hole - the 550-yard, par-5 18th - Mead hit a bomb down the middle of the fairway to about 223 yards out, while Pridey hit it in the left rough and found some tree trouble.

Augustana golfer Pridey, nearly threading the needle on his second shot, hit a tree and was still 250 yards from the green. His third shot ended up pin-high about 15 yards left. Mead then hit a solid iron to eight yards short of the pin in the rough.

      Congrats to Geoff!

What a summer for SDSU golf. Counting incoming freshman Brian Wynia makes 3 SDSU players in the top 8.

It should be mentioned that our very own SDSU Golf Coach Jared Baszler won the first flight last weekend.

These wins are huge momentum builders for a golf program. Coach Baszler is going full time this year. They actually have a little coin for scholarships to pass out with more to come (hopefully). Considering what sort of talent Coach Baszler has accumulated to date, the future of the golf program looks pretty dang good!
