SDSU men win Summit League opener, fall to UMKC
- The South Dakota State University men's tennis team made its Summit League debut a successful one Friday as the Jackrabbits swept Centenary (La.), 5-0, to open league cluster schedule competition.
Later in the day, the Jackrabbits dropped a 4-0 decision to host UMKC.
The Jackrabbits, who moved to 5-9 overall, received victories in both singles and doubles action from Brian Hylle and Steve Grantz against Centenary. The doubles team of Jeff Hughes and Wade Kippley also was victorious, while Michael Engdahl and Corey Paluch added wins in singles play.
In the match versus UMKC, Grantz had his eight-match singles winning streak snapped as he fell in straight sets to Erwin Quintanilla.
Not all matches were completed in either dual as the outcome of the team results were already decided.
