$120,000 to $400,000 buys a lot of kyle minnett's & derek domino boy! preach all you want about your south dakota values, you're plain CRAZY if you pass up a offer for $400,000/year, I don't care if it's at Crackpipe University-Grand Forks!

Knock off the "re....." remark. Unacceptable, period.

My vote for worst post of the year. That includes lakesbison's posts.

My last comment on this as it's a moot point. With more $$ and a higher level of competition comes more stress, more responsibilities, and more things outside of the coach's control. Not always things that are worth the more $$. And besides, taking a head job at another school, or an FBS school, isn't always what it's cracked up to be. There are many a "big time" coach who find themselves now unemployed, assistant at an FBS school, or head coach at a lower level school. Great example, Jerry Glanville, who coached in the NFL, just stepped down at FCS Portland State after going 9-24 over three season. How the mighty can fall.

I'm sure every so often Stig will entertain conversations here and there, but over the long haul I'm guessing he's pretty happy at SDSU.

never say never, but I am bettin my money on Stig not wanting to leave. I am very happy with where i am in life, but an offer for 4 times my salary, even if i would have to sell me soul I would still have to think seriously about it. OK i meant to qoute the one you responded too. At work and was in a hurry.

It was pretty obvious you don't get it even before this post. Some people are in the same boat and none of them realize it. Coach Stig is not like those people, he gets it.

Re: Coach Sig,s name being floated around

Sort of but not really the same idea, Like when coach k was offered big money to coach the lakers, he had to think about it, but how can you leave just for the money? the challenge of a new job maybe, but to just pack up and move away for what some consider not a great reason, no matter how many $millions of reasons. The choices people make in certain situations is when it really shows their characther(SP). If Stig was offered anywhere else and turned it down to stay here, it should tell you wants important to him, or atleast whats not important to him. Loyalty is something I think some in the sports world or business world even could use a little bit more off, not the limelight the fame or money or extra perks. On the other hand, i dont think any of us could blame him if he would accept a different coaching position.

Stig getting offered that type of job would be the best thing that could happen to South Dakota State... Even if he had no interest in taking the job he would have the leverage he needs to finally get funding to where it needs to be for us to compete at the level we want in the long run. Stig receiving offers from bigger schools is exactly what we need to get assistant coaches' salaries increased and upgrade the facilities.

Is this a fairy tale? This all sounds great, but you have to make it about "you" at some level. Trust me - I understand coach speak. But what would this message board look like in 5-10 years if the Rabbits are struggling year in and year out (I hope it never happens). Do you think the quotes will read:

                    A. I think it's time to move on.
                    B. Coach Stig is a great guy keep him no matter what.

In my original post I made the comment if $300,000 extra dollars were floated your way per season you need to consider it. You can love what you do and make less. When it's significantly less you need to consider what is best for you and your family. Unfortunatly sometimes money talks.

Also I just wanted to let one of the previous posters know. I am over the age of 30!

That pretty neat to be way out here and the FBS school are talking about stealing the head coach from little SD State.

Just wanted to remind people what started this whole thread that has gotten more than a little ridiculous in my mind. The first post was about how neat it was that SDSU had done well enough in football that a radio station in Las Vegas knew about the team.

Now we have posters telling each other how much better they know the coach than the other guy. Nobody knows what would happen if an offer came along, other than Stig would make a decision about it.

Let's get back to talking about how cool it is that SDSU football came up on sports radio in Las Vegas. Got to tell the truth, when we went D1, I never thought that would happen this fast. Not only is the neat, it is pretty cool.

I agree it is cool that Coach's name came up and I suspect he will have offers especially if we go 8-3 and get a playoff berth. For a fact that should give him more exposure.

I do believe Coach Stig is 50 something one or two maybe. He was a student assistant when Diesel and the boys went 9-3 in 1979 and after various stops he came back to SDSU in 1988 as an assistant under Coach Haensel. So that gives him at least 31 years in the South Dakota Retirement system and eligible for retirement in three or four years. I think these factors would be the weighing factors in any offer presented to Stig at this point in life. This is how I would be looking at things if I were Stig and I am not. I think coaches like everyone else have burn out and after so many years and so many dealings with young people you might just want to do something else. Stig was also a good math teacher as I understand and did that at Eau Claire Wisconsin for about three years. I would not be surprised if he took a teaching job over a bright lights offer from somewhere else. He is just that humble.

What? You don't think Coach Stig will go Joe Pa's route and most likely die on the sideline? What a way to go!

I believe his age + his number of years working for the state has to equal a certain number which I don't recall right now....(80 maybe?) My mother has worked for the state for 20 some years and is in her mid 50's and has mentioned several times she's real close to retirement and is very excited.

85, with a minimum age of 59 1/2. Don't know any other particulars for certain.
