I think this game will define where this season is headed. I realize we have tougher conference games, but this is a game we need if we are going to march towards the playoffs or finish with another 7-4/6-5 season.
This game seems like a chance for our outstanding coaching staff to really show their stuff. I expect Coach Meadows will have completely rethought the offensive game plan for this week, given the change at QB. There'll be more ways to get Kyle Minett's hands on the ball (and Tyrel Kool's hands, too). There'll be more safe passes (that doesn't just mean short passes). There'll also be some plays that take advantage of TOB's special skills: Like a package of max protection deep shots, for example.
Our team is going to have to make some adjustments, and that's where our coaches really shine. I expect the Jackrabbits will come out anxious to prove themselves. I'd hate to be staring down Jimmy Rogers in this one. And I expect TOB will begin to show us more of what he can do. Kyle Minett will be Kyle Minett, 100+ and a couple TDs.

Now, Allen and the Bears want to take their momentum and build it against their next opponent at 2 p.m. Saturday when they face 19th-ranked South Dakota State.
A win over the Jackrabbits would put the Bears at 2-1 in the Missouri Valley and could push them to the top of the standings.
“I think we’ve built some confidence,” Allen said. “I’m just hoping that will give us a better chance against the Jackrabbits.”
This will not be the first time the Bears have faced a ranked opponent at home this season. The Bears lost 35-7 to No. 3 Northern Iowa on Sept. 26. Allen hopes that experience will better prepare the Bears.
The Cal Poly game, twice we went out to forge a lead,7-0,&14-7.Twice we couldn't hold on to it.This time if we get a lead, hang on to it .Dig in D& stop 'em.Granted, against CP, IT'S hard to stop such a potent offense. but against Missouri State we should be able to stop 'em, which should help TOB some.

Please note, that vs Poly, the Poly OFFENSE scored ONE touchdown, the other 2 were DEFENSIVE TDs. Guys, this IS a tough as nails D team. IMHO they will show vs Bears like UNI showed vs Bears. Offense is where O'Brien needs to show his stuff, and get the catches from the receivers. I hope that we can continue the even balance of run/pass plays/yardage.
If Poly manages to knock off Montana for homecoming, IMHO Poly joins the top 10.
For SDSU to succeed is to continue 1-0 the rest of the season. Which continues at Mo State this week.

Defense did a lot of bending against Cal-Poly and we were fortunate thanks to some poor play calls and execution that they didn't score more. The Mustangs regularly gained 7-9 yards on first down and converted about 12 3rd down plays for first downs. The defensive unit is not celebrating the fact they only gave up 1 of the 2 TD's last week.
We need a better defensive effort against Miss St. and the offense needs to establish the ground game, that starts with the O-line. I didn't see many holes for our RB's in CA and there was plenty of pressure on the QBs. I think we'll see more of the "flash" set (what Stig is calling our wildcat) and predominately a short passing game, at least early. If we fall behind we might be forced to extend the field with TOB's arm. Kick coverage needs to be better and we can't give them yards on penalties. If we give up 2 TD's on turnovers I think we're looking at a 3-2 record.
Jacks have the experience to bounce back and I think they will. I see us winning by 10 or more but I'm betting on some tense moments, especially early on.

We do not see things as they are, we see things as we are.

Man MD you sound really really down on tthe team after last game. Did they really look that bad? Like horridly bad? I didnt get to watch so I have no idea, and reading your posts we would have struggled with Ill St. w the way we played. Im just curious because I really wasn't too horribly worried about the defense but now the way your describing it we really should be.
