Re: Quarter Backs Coach leaving SDSU

I went browsing around AGS website and found a link that suppose to provide breaking news on coaching changes. I found nothing on Don Bailey, but reverified that his profile had been removed from GoJacks.com and it has. Footballcoachscoop had nothing on a move by Don Bailey. Something must not be final in where ever he is headed as there seems to be no press releases yet.

I am hoping what ever offer he has received is declined and he is with us another year.

From looking at that salary list, most of our assistants are making between 40K and 55K a year...Ouch. Quite a few college grads can make that in their first year out of school and then some.

The state, at http://open.sd.gov, publishes all state employee salaries.

        Stig: $125,751
        Donald Bailey: $43,250
        Shannon Moore: $39,839
        Luke Meadows: $49,844
        Jay Bubak: $52,757
        Shawn Mennenga: $40,000
Clint Brown: too new to be included

There may be other income, like camps and such, that isn't reflected here. But, like pretty much every other state employee, these people are seriously underpaid.

Don has left the program and has left coaching all together.

Was Don basically our offensive coordinator or is that a shared function? I hope we have some other good options this close to camp and the season.

Re: Quarter Backs Coach leaving SDSU

Good luck to Coach Bailey in what ever his pursuit may be. He was a credit to the SDSU program. No doubt he can be making more than 45k somewhere else in this commerical world and I for one don't blame him for moving on.

I guess for those us left behind, it should make us ponder on just how much do we want to invest financially in a football program. I just think we could do much better and as some one reported, Coach Stig is an advocate for better salaries. A good boss will do that, but its got to be a big challenge in South Dakota and at SDSU.

Luke Meadows has been the offensive coordinator for sometime, the two shared the role last year.

Interesting numbers but they tell the story why we have a revolving door. Apparently Jay Brubak is one we can not afford to lose. If you divide the numbers above by the hours these guys put in, you probably would not have a quotient equal minimum wage which is as of this month $7.25.

I had heard he was leaving due to family health issues. If that's true best of luck to coach and his family.

Re: Quarter Backs Coach leaving SDSU

TV's story in the Argus today confirms he is leaving. Story says he is leaving to go into private business with an offer he has. Stig says they will not hire another person at this time for the staff, and he will take over at least some of Bailey's duties. It was definitely not good timing...so while I would join others in wishing Coach Bailey the best, it is pretty upsetting that he would make the move at this time IMHO.

Although I am a USD fan, the comment I am about to make doesn't mean to agitate or make fun of the situation. When a coach leaves this close to the season, there is probably a very high percentage rate that the cause for the departure is bickering or in house fighting.

If a coach was endeared toward a program or to the head coach himself, there is little chance he would opt to leave right now. I will almost bet that before it is all said and done, there will be something that comes out that gives the real reason why he left.

Truthfully, I am sorry it happened to your squad. They deserve better. And thus far, I applaud both coaches for not taking it public, or airing out "dirty laundry" in the press. Coach Stig will adjust and make do, but be assured, your program was hurt, and it might show up early this season. Maybe not, and I hope not, but I think it will.

That being said: ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL???????

When your balancing your career or your checkbook....if an opportunity came doubling your salary...your family and taking care of them would come first.

It was aired out on the sports page of the Argus. Bailey had a business opportunity and moved on. I know Coach Stig well enough that if there was bickering going on somebody's contract would not have been renewed on June 30th. This is one time there is no smoke and therefore no fire.

I believe this is what happened, and can you blame Coach Bailey?
