    Re: Signing Day

In other good news, NDSU didn't get a single SD player.

    UND took two:

    Sioux recruiting class

2009 UND Football Signing Class by Name
Name Position Ht/Wt High School/Junior College Team Hometown
Damon Andrews WR/DB 6-4, 205 Triton High School West Concord, Minn.
Dominique Bennett Linebacker 6-1, 200 DeSoto High School DeSoto, Texas
Marcus Binns RB 5-9, 200 Cretin-Derham Hall High School St. Paul, Minn.
Darren DeNeui TE/DE 6-8, 260 Parker High School Chancellor, S.D.
Nick Doehling O-Line 6-3, 310 Arrowhead High School Nashotah, Wis.
Matt Field O-Line 6-5, 295 Brookings High School Brookings, S.D.
Cordero Finley Linebacker 6-1, 200 Mary D. Bradford High School Kenosha, Wis.
Garrison Goodman Linebacker 6-2, 215 San Ramon Valley High School San Ramon, Calif.
Karl Hager WR/DB 5-10, 180 Larimore High School Larimore, N.D.
Greg Hardin WR 5-11, 170 Bellevue West High School Bellevue, Neb.
Jake Hoerchner O-Line 6-4, 285 Menomonee Falls High School Menomonee Falls, Wis.
Jay Jelinek RB 6-2, 200 Park River High School Pisek, N.D.
Joe Kleason O-Line 6-4, 285 Cretin-Derham Hall High School Eagan, Minn.
Brock Lundeen D-Line 6-3, 245 Wayne High School Huber Heights, Ohio
Connor McKendry O-Line 6-4, 275 Santa Ana College Costa Mesa, Calif.
Zeb Miller Kicker 6-1, 190 Ankeny High School Ankeny, Iowa
Matt Moody Linebacker 6-1, 225 Cerritos Junior College La Habera, Calif.
Caleb Nelson O-Line 6-3, 250 Sargent Central High School Forman, N.D.
Brian Otto Linebacker 6-1, 210 Nathan Hale High School West Allis, Wis.
Mitch Overstreet TE 6-3, 230 Bettendorf High School Bettendorf, Iowa
Seth Stanchick D-Line 6-4, 240 Hudson High School Hudson, Wis.
Blair Townsend QB 6-3, 190 Coon Rapids High School Coon Rapids, Minn.

The upshot: SDSU and USD kept the best in of South Dakota in state. Congrats Jacks and glad to see the Yotes get most of the rest.

      Re: Signing Day

The two UND guys are big. Do they have quickness to go with their size? I am sure SDSU took a look and said maybe we got others in mind that can move better and are just as big. I am guessing here but maybe they liked being close to Canada and the Red River.

How many kids did NDSU actually make offers to in SD ?

          Re: Signing Day

SDSU has lost a couple of Brookings kids to the ND schools over the years. I would envision that since Jacks signed both Mason Winterboer & Alex Parker of Brookings, that Matt Field must have been viewed as not as high a candidate as other elite 45 choices. I'm happy that a Brookings kid is going to play D-I ball on a schollie. Even if the school is having nickname issues.

Loetzer (Sisseston) seems to have fallen off the radar after his injury. Any idea what happened there?

Also, during the verbals in Oct/Nov, Jacks had a Yuma AZ QB coming in with great HS numbers, what happened with him? (If not SDSU, then where?)

Maybe I am reading your post wrong, but it seems you thought we had a verbal from the AZ kid. He was just known to have had an offer. Jake Knott was another offer that went FBS. Cooper Wahlo had an offer, went to NDSU.

In the Argus, it was said that we had 4 that turned us down, 3 to FBS. Any other ideas out there? Just trying to add them up.

The big kid (DL/DE I think) from Wisconsin that ended up at Stanford was one of them.

So, known offers who went elsewhere:

                  1. Jake Knott - Iowa State
                  2. Cooper Wahlo - NDSU
                  3. DT/DE from WI - Stanford
                  4. ?

There was a kid from Sioux City Heelan that went to Iowa I believe. He was a running back, whose dad played at SDSU. This was really early in the recruiting process, but I think he was a 4 star athlete. Can't remember his name.

                      Re: Signing Day

I find it hard to believe the the coaches have not recruited Minnesota/Twin Citied more. It seems that the past few years they have not pulled out some top talent out of there. They have gotten one or two thats about it. It does seem that NDSU is pulling out some top talent including Gimmestad (MArshall) and a kid from Montevideo. These are very close towns and we should be pulling in this talent..... maybe it has to do with who ever is recruiting in that area

Brandon Wegher. I watched his state championship game on TV and saw some highlight tape on gohawks.com. He is what one would call, a freak of nature. Ridiculous athleticism.

That, or as the coaches have said, they know the exact type of PERSON and not just athlete they want and go after the ones that fit their mold. Not knocking those other kids, but maybe they didn't like the fit, or SDSU didn't like them for our program. A lot more goes into our recruiting then just watching the film, saying "that kid is awesome!" followed by a knee jerk offer that later won't be best for the program or the kid. I am sure the Twin Cities were scoured for men for our program. If there were ones that SDSU felt fit, they would have had offers.

I think it is more need based. The coaches got their 18 guys, whether they're from MN, IA, NEB. CALI...ETC...ETC...ETC, it really doesn't matter where they come from.
As long as SDSU gets the top kids from South Dakota(if those "top kids" fit their need), I don't care were they come from and I don't think the coaches do either.
Now if SDSU needed 26 recruits, I'm sure you'd have seen more recruiting in MN. But they got their 18 and from the sounds of it, all 18 want to be Jackrabbits!!
Like I said before, NDSU and UND pillage MN, but I do believe the Dakota Marker has been on the SDSU campus the past TWO years in a row and I'm proud to say I've witnessed both.

SDSU football takes a back seat to NOBODY, especially the Bison, our coaches know it, they know it and our fans need to start believing it....EVERY YEAR!!

                            Go Jacks!!
                            SDSU...Passionate, Relentless, Champions.
