    Re: 2009 Recruiting Class

In the "old days", SDSU lost out to NDSU on a majority of kids. Not anymore. The success of the program, the respect for the coaching staff and the increase in fan support have all made SDSU a real viable option for talented high school students. Also, facility enhancement (Wellness Center, Dykhouse Center, upgrades to Frost Arena, etc.) has made a significant difference in how recruits see us.

Looks like Clay Gosse is going to Minnesota for Track.

Talked to Coach Meadows last night and he said of the 14 offers, they have 13 verbals. One still pending.

Here is a little more about Lee Mondol and his decision to come to SDSU. Posted on Scouts.com yesterday. I didn't see this posted anywhere, but more of the same about our rising program and the coaching staff being the top draw. That's a great reputation to have.

I've had occassion to email Stig a couple of occasions, usually congratulatory notes, or "tough one, go get em next time." Every single time he's responded thoughtfully, even if it's just a line or two, and there's no varnish to it at all. If he disagrees with the sentiment, he says so. Judging from what I see, he definitely understands that the inevitable PR role he plays is not best served by hubris, but by action, and there is one heck of a difference between the two.
    Good lesson for young men.

Thanks for the find. They also have a tidbit about him in the sports brief section which isn't online. Frustrating that the sports brief section on the Argus Leader website only gets updated a couple of times a week but yet always has the current date.

Here is what was included there:

Pat Brown, a cornerback and return specialist from Bettendorf, Iowa, said Thursday that he has made a verbal commitment to play football at South Dakota State.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder was a member of the Des Moines Register Elite All-State Team and was named second-team all-state by the Iowa Newspaper Association as a wide receiver in his senior year. As a junior, he helped Bettendorf to an undefeated season and a state title in Iowa’s largest class.

Brown is also a standout sprinter, qualifying for the state meet in four events.

That's impressive.

It says something about the institution and about the coaching staff. Probably everybody feels good about their recruiting classes, but it makes me proud as a Jackrabbit fan to see the caliber of student athlete that the football coaches are bringing to campus.

Iowa Preps had a story on this young man yesterday and it said he committed to NW Missouri State. Maybe this young man changed his mind because of a better offer. We will find out in a few days.

Great class. It appears the Jacks are turning their biggest question mark, QB, into a position of depth and strength. There could be three or four potential starters on the team next season. Hopefully the O-line and D-backfield have been shored up too.

Phil Wright from O'Gorman chooses UNI....
This was the one other in-state kid I hoped we could land. His father played at Arizona State. We have not had much luck with O'Gorman kids as Josh Mahoney another O'Gorman is a standout at UNI and several have committed to USD. Dykhouse is the last one from there to play at State from a program where success is expected and they produce a lot of talent. What a great class we have assembled so far!

    Like the 3rd one down:

He wanted to be close to home. I think Illinois State is the closest FCS team to the Milwaukee area. Like you said, at least it wasn't to the Bison.
