    Re: coach sarvis leaving

I've heard a couple of different rumors about coaching changes. This was one of them, the other one may or may not be true. I don't like to gossip so I will just wait until something official comes out. However, those who are privy to solid info from reputable and quotable sources should feel welcome to break any news. Comments should be tolerated by all. It may be an interesting off season for Jackrabbit football.

      JackMD:

In your report on Coach Stig's trip to Yankton, you mentioned that some changes were coming and Coach Stig of course did not get specific during his remarks. The Coach Stig I know would never get specific in public. I can see if he feels adjustments in coaching personnel are needed to make his program stronger, then I would expect him to make those changes.

The timing of this announcement opens up the opportunity for speculation. From what I know of the football program, December is a busy month, looking at tapes, and possible home visits so the announcement does surprise me and the other assistants who left with another job usually mentioned where they were headed. Hard to say what is going on here.

While I don't think this is necessarily true, it has become more and more true over the last few seasons. In the end this was the reason that Coach Sarvis is no longer here. I always enjoyed working with him and wish him well wherever he and his wife end up.

This really surprises me. Whatever the circumstances of his leaving, he was a great coach and a large reason why the defensive line/defense was so successful over the past several years. One major contribution that he had that doesn't get enough credit was the special teams that he coached. Those won many big games for us (NDSU '07).

Best of luck to you Coach Sarvis!

It's a shame. I hope Coach Sarvis, who did a great job from what I could see on the field, finds a new situation quickly.

Assistant Coaches come and go every year. So it might be sad to see him leave, but there are always a lot of young, hungry up and coming assistant coaches at smaller schools and grad assistant coaches at bigger schools out there who would give their left arm for this job at SDSU. SDSU will always be a place where position coaches are going to be short timers looking for the next bigger and better job.
