I don't know about the rest of you, but I hope we have garnered a SDSU fan for life with mplscyclone. We can only hope he sticks around for a while to provide further insights into ISU football and how awesome they are and how borish and classless most SDSU fans are. By the way, I'm still waiting for the site to my post where I predicted SDSU would win and where I trash talked ISU.*

Yeah volume has a lot to do with it but there is just that buzz in the stadium before a game that I didn't feel at ISU. Maybe it is just the amount of people there and the sound at Kinnick. I felt that buzz everytime the band was under the grandstand at Coughlin-Alumni. There was a buzz that was there when we marched in. The stands were electric and CAS is a lot more open than the Jack. Maybe it has just been the down years. The ISU athletes and fans deserve that buzz/electricity in the stadium.

In my opinion (disclaimer, Iowa grad) there are a several things happening here. First, Iowa City is just more of a fun town than Ames. Game day extends from downtown (the campus and downtown are mixed together) across the river to the stadium. Also, the ISU stadium is technically on campus, but it's kind of off by itself and there's not much around it. Kinnick is on the west side of campus, but it's right in the middle of a bunch of residential areas, which means there's a "neighborhood" vibe going on there. So the place itself makes Iowa's gameday experience more fun. Add an additional 26,000 seats in the stadium, which is completely enclosed and you've got something. Finally, there's something about the Big Ten. I've gone to school and worked at two Big Ten campuses (Iowa, Purdue) and I've worked at a Big XII campus (Oklahoma) and there's just something special about Big Ten gamedays.

Well no offense to the SDSU fans, but the attendence was a bit down compared to UNI, Nebraska and Iowa games. When there's 55,000 instead of 45,000 that makes a difference.

Having been to Kinnick, a poster was saying how the setup is way better. While there is more of a festive vibe, I don't like paying money to walk into a tailgating lot (not park, but just walk). I also don't like tailgating and NOT seeing the stadium. The cool thing about tailgating at ISU is that if you don't have tickets, you can hear the stadium noise while you're watching the game on TV or on the radio.

I think of Iowa games as more of a toursit attraction: you can buy turkey legs, and other things like gear, but it's a bigger mess. You also have a lot less sports fans. To each their own, but Iowa City is somewhere I'd want to go for a game maybe once every couple of years. The tailgating in Ames is more about staying chill and kicking it with the homies while drinking and grilling. Not all of the bells and whistles, but it's in good spirit and a lot of fun.

Going back to what I said before, Ames is more of a conservative family town compared to Iowa City. The people are a bit more reserved and a majority of the fans are people taking their little kids to the games. They aren't passionate fans, but they root for the Cyclones. They just have more things going on that they find important. I have mixed feelings about some of these fans and I've debated it on the cyclone boards. At Iowa City, you have some of the family crowds, but you also have more singles and wild young party guys and girls. Just the way it is.

If I want a hardcore, rocking atmosphere, I go to Vikings and Kansas City Cheifs games. I am a big Cyclone fan but I've gotten over the whole laid back attitude from the fans, and I tailgate hard with my buddies and watch the game for what it is....

No, what's really cool is being able to watch the game on the radio. I've never actually done that! "Stay Chill" bro and have fun "kicking it".

What the hell planet are you from? Again - apologies for the Hawkeye fan posting as "mplscyclone". Those folks in Iowa City think it is funny to do such things. They actually spend the time to go to ISU's opponents' boards and stir stuff up with backhanded compliments and slanderous comments. Had a great game with SDSU and hope to see them again. Also wish SDSU success in "The Valley" as it becomes the premier Champ Subdiv conference.

Just like USD fans here! Our universities have a lot in common. We're just half your size, student population-wise.

Thanks for revealing the likely identity of this delusional idiot. We enjoyed our time at Ames (well, yeh, the game could have been better for us), but were treated well by the host fans. Parked in the lot beside a number of ISU fans and they were great. Good luck this season!
