We are leaving Brookings in little over an hour, hitting the bars tonight and will be ready to go with some Grade A tailgating tomorrow

The Flying J on the north side of Sioux Falls right? I just want to be clear. If the gang leaves then, I'm in. Very excited. VERY EXCITED!

It will probably be closer to 9:30 before we get to the truck stop on 52 and I-29. If you guys wait there we will stop by. Our plan is to take I-29 to Highway 20 (bypassing around Sioux City via the south route) onto I-35 and the south into Ames. I'll take the Highway 30 exit west and then head north on University (Elmwood) blvd. I'm not good at waiting for trailers so everyone is pretty much on their own. If you guys leave me in the dust, I'm fine with that.

I really doubt you'll get too much crap even in the student lots. My girlfriend went to UNI and last year while we were tailgating down there, nobody gave her any crap at all. Only Iowa or Nebraska (and sometimes CU and KSU) fans really get it.

I'll be there around 1:30 with a crew of 5 in my van. We will have the Jackrabbit flag, a blue canopy, and a coleman tailgating grill. Everyone is welcome. I'll be representing the Yankton Jackrabbit Club so stop by and say hi. The location should allow for plenty of mingling with the cyclone fans especially in lot G7 and the Jackrabbit fans at the alumni tent and elsewhere. It shouls also be out of the students way enough that we don't cramp their style or offend.

Now, where can I get the best deal on beer in Ames? If we need some extra food where is the closest place to the tailgate area for supplies?

Possibly the Keg Shop on Welch Ave or Hy-Vee Wine and Spirits

Quick heads up for those driving to the game. While lurking at the CF site I noted that South 4th street is closed just east of Jack Trice. Shouldn't affect tailgating but will affect the flow of traffic out of the area. I had intended to take 4th street up to Lincoln Way on my way out of town after the game. I may have to reconsider that. I'm not sure where the detour will take me if I go that way. If it takes me over to Duff on 3rd street I'm fine with that. I want to avoid having to travel on University or 16th street if possible. If not, no big deal but just a heads up.

The detour will take you to Duff. It will slow traffic, but honestly, traffic is always bad after game days. So, some advice: after the game, go back to your tailgate with some buddies and post-game tailgate! Drink a few beers, grill some brats and watch a line of cars sit stationary for about 30 minutes. When the traffic dies down, then head for the Interstate.

The detour is about 10 blocks down heading east. It might actually be a good thing. Everyone will avoid that road all together before the game.

When the game is over then all bets are off. Forget about getting anywhere fast. Get out your chairs and stay awhile.

The van is packed. Just need to put the cooler in and hit the road in the morning. Where is everybody sitting? I had 2 tickets in section 8 row 37 (50 yard line) deep in Cyclone territory but wanted to sit with the Jackrabbit fans. So, we are in sec 16 row 20 seats 3-8.

I know RVs can park in the G2 and G3 lot for $30. You can spend the night. They are also allowed in D2, D3, D4 and S8. See the map below.
