Re: ISU vs SDSU on National TV

I just checked the alunni association site and there is nothing official for the game listed there except for the tailgate in Ames. I'm thinking that an unofficial alumni gathering in Sioux Falls is warranted for those of us who are not going down to Ames.

    Any interest? Any ideas?

Rookies is pretty sweet, they have around ten 8 foot screens.

I remember that Champps had the basketball game on when we played Kentucky a few years ago, so that is probably another option.

I will probably not be able to attend so I would be amenable to a gathering in Sioux Falls somewhere. Rookies would be nice if they could put the game on a big TV somewhere to be seen.

I called Rookies and the person I spoke to said they have DirectTV. This person wasn't very friendly or helpful about the possibility of watching specifically the SDSU/Iowa State game but I'm thinking that it would be possible. Perhaps I can call again and speak to someone more helpful in the next couple of days.

I have to be out of town also or I would be there. Check with Nutty's North or McNally's as they have both hosted SDSU alumni events in the past and have been easy to work with.

That's also been my experience with Rookies when trying to get a specific game shown. Either they have no clue what you're talking about ("Wait a minute, you're supposed to be a sports bar, right?"), or they make you feel like what you're asking is way too much trouble for them.

Champps has always seemed to be good to Jacks fans. But I remember going there last year to watch our basketball game at Minnesota. While they were more than happy to put the game on, they claimed they couldn't turn up the sound because it was a weeknight (?), even though we were the only ones in the room just off the main entrance.

Buffalo Wild Wings may be a possibility. We've had good luck at Old Chicago getting a couple TVs turned to watch hockey. But they really don't have a big screen per se.

Just a couple more suggestions. I kinda like the McNally's idea. I'm just concerned about finding a place that will be able to turn up the sound so you can hear the play by play.

We could all bring in portable radios and listen to Steve I's call of the game on WNAX!

Is there anyone on the board that has a connection with a place in Sioux Falls that might be able to get something set up?

I have had similar experiences with the staff at Rookies (clueless about sports), but if you are looking to watch sports and willing to be even a little persistent in asking them to put on a game, IMO there is no better place in Sioux Falls to watch sports. No one has more big TV's, and the food and general atmosphere is good.

BTW, there is no better place to watch football on Sundays than Rookies. I love going there to keep tabs on my fantasy players, and you can have a clear line of sight to 5-7 games all on giant screens throughout the perimeter of the bar.

I bet if someone actually talked to a manager (and not the hired help who went to SE Tech) and explained that there were 20-30 fans interested in spending an evening in the bar, they would wise up pretty quickly...

Re: ISU vs SDSU on National TV

Monday the 18th is a Sioux Empire Staters mixer at McNally's, starts at 5:00. I am guessing that if turn is as big as in the past, they will definitely tune in to the game. If everyone that wants to watch the game comes to the mixer, the crowd Monday will be bigger and they will be even more likely to tune in for the game. I will be there on Monday and will speak to the manager about it. There isn't much time, so getting a big event planned is not likely going to happen, but if we can lock down a place I bet the Alumni Association would send an email out notifying alums. If you aren't signed up with the alumnin association, do it now at http://www.statealum.com/s/357/start.aspx

EDIT: Nutty's North might be a good spot also as they are close to the Arena, might as well start buttering up business ahead of the Summit Tourney.

Read the above Argus artticle that is posted. It states you have to have DirectTVs "premium sports package" in order to get the channel the game is on.

I cannot make it on Monday night, but if you can speak to management and see if they would be willing to put the game on the tube that would be outstanding. I don't much care where its at, I just want to see this big game.

Actually, I'm really kicking myself that I'm not going down to Ames. But with it being a Thursday night game, that is not going to change. For that matter, I always enjoy listening on WNAX, but something tells me it would be fun to see this one on the tube. Any way you slice it, its going to be a great night.

The Sioux Empire Staters are in the process of trying to lock down a site. Should have word in a day or two.
