    That makes sense, thanks.

Guys I don't understand how dropping the SDSU game helps UNL move to elite status. Didn't Florida play Charleston Southern this year? That didn't seem to have a negative impact on the Gator's status as an elite program.

Seems to me that UNL needs only to go undefeated to gain elite status. An early game and win against the Jackrabbits (if UNL wins) would only help. I don't think anyone would question strength of schedule for an undeafeated Big 12 champion.

I believe the difference is that Florida is elite, Nebraska wants to be taken seriously. Once you're at the top of the heap you can pad your record, but you can't get to the top by padding it.

Also, the Big Twelve North is somewhere between the Great West Conference and the ESD when it comes to quality, unlike the SEC East (although the SEC East isn't as impressive as the SEC West these days).

Not to mention that FCS games at Memorial Stadium are seen as a Callahan thing, as Solich & Osborne never scheduled them.

Ultimately, I'd say the objection to the game is that Callahan & whatsisface (the AD that hired Callahan) scheduled this game, and that's why they want it canceled.

Sure, understand all that Zoo. The fan base doesn't like the recent past.

Point still stands. Any Big 12 team goes undefeated, they're in the "National Championship Game". That is the advantage of playing Big 12 as opposed to Mtn West or WAC. No one asks whether they played the Jackrabbits or the Ducks.

And I think the corn shuckers are a long way from going undefeated.

Similar to CAA teams and Montana. They have respect from past performance that allows for a softer schedule and they keep the high ranking and benefit of the doubt come selection day.

If you look at Nebraska's schedule they didn't beat any decent teams. Sure they played some good teams close, but that doesn't count. You would think they would want to keep the low teams on the schedule another year.

Nebraska fans seem to bother me more and more. At least the ones that expect and demand near perfection in an era that it is very rare in college football.

With that offense, would tend to agree.

Seems to me UNL has a tough hill to climb, much like Michigan. Scholarship limits prevent them from stocking players and the location is less than ideal for recruiting compared to the southern schools.

Well Michigan made their bed with probably the most boneheaded hire in the history of the football universe (at least since Les Steckel).

A better coach wouldn't be in this deep of a hole right now.

Kinda feel bad for Shucker fans, though. Of course they're talking about being undefeated next year and going to the BCS championship. They've had so little to chear about over the last 7 years, they're getting all caught up in one burst of incoherent and unrealistic fanarrhea.

They might not have scheduled FCS teams but they scheduled the likes of the University of the Pacific. In 1994 and 1995 (NC season) they played Pacific at home. Pacific cut the program at the end of the 1995 season.

Playing a team like ASU, Montana, or Richmond would be just as good as playing the likes of Pacific.

yeah, I don't know if Nebraska ever really scheduled hard out of conference.... the thing was Missouri and Colorado were really tough for many years.... I remember seeing them play Nicholes state and some schools I've never heard of even before the Callahan days....

UNL played Western Illinois and Nicholas State under Callahan. Under Devaney, Osborn and Solich their patsies were all D1A; Troy, UAB, Pacific, Utah State, Rice, Hawaii. Not much difference in quality of play but still upper division.

Hard to feel sorry for them. They made their bed just like Michigan, Notre Dame and earlier Alabama. Unfortunately they haven't had enough really bad seasons to clear out the loud, obnoxious and delusional type fans.

Their semi-recent trend is to play one big time out of conference opponent and the rest are viewed as tune up games/cupcakes.

I remember rooting for Nebraska to beat Texas Callahan's last year based on the notion that Nebraska couldn't fire Callahan if he beat Texas.

                                Of course, they lost.
