    Re: Chris Wagner

Sorry if those number and his skill set just doesn't jump off of the page and automatically put him in the NFL. Be realistic.

Jeez, it's testy in here. You guys all need a spring game to lighten the mood. Until then ... Roll that beautiful bean footage!
Grumbling along and embracing my role. If I didn't care, I wouldn't care. Go Jacks!

Give ME a break, NFL scouts don't look at JUST stats when they're looking at a player. They look alot at the physical abilities of the player. Wags is 6'6 260ish and runs a 4.6.... The fastest tight end (according to the combine website) is Dustin Keller of Purdue who ran a 4.55, BUT he is 6'3 230ish.

what we're saying here in this thread is that Wagner is COMPARABLE to many of the good TE's in the draft this year.

Why doesn't every 300 pounder get drafted on the D-Line then?

If you take away his 55-yard touchdown, Wagner had less than 200 yards aganist DI-AA competition. If he can't even dominate or be the best player on his team in college in the FCS, then how can he even get on the field in the NFL. My dog can run a sub 4.0 40, but you don't see scouts checking him out. He can probably catch just as well, although I give a slight edge to Wagner in blocking. Speed has to be one of the least important things for a tight end. Blocking, hands, route running, etc. are much more important.

It appears to me that you do know your dog, but know very little about football.

                  Just to straighten this out:

Do you expect Wagner do get drafted: Yes or No

Do you expect Wagner to make an NFL team: Yes or No

If you have a TE with speed he becomes a weapon who can not only block but can also get loose with the ball. Im not saying wagner has break-away speed at all, but its enough to be noted.

SDSU's offense is more of a blocking TE scheme with a 'W' (fullback/tight end type player) who is often in motion from the fullback to the wing position... putting him in position to either lead block or reach block with the strech play. Last year SDSU's offense relied on a steady run game. Most of Wagner's catches were just short little play action pop passes

I don't expect him to be drafted.

I do expect him to get an invite to a training camp.

                        I don't think he will make a 53-man roster.

I think he has a chance at making someone's practice squad.

                        Go State!!!

I agree with you to an extent...but our offense under Wilks did not feature the TE. It hardly even sniffed at the TE. It was run left , run right, run middle, 5 yard out, 5 yard in, bore the defense to death...home run ball. He does have tremendous upside, but we are talking about such an extreme jump. This is "The League." Takes someone very special and very gifted. Just my two cents.

Thanks ... I like to lighten moods (unless I'm all wound up). I see I've failed. It's nice somebody got the joke/appreciated the effort, though.

Just an update from Raiders camp.
Things are going well for Wags, he is seen in some Raiders pictures sporting the #43.
The Raiders are down to 4 Tight Ends with 3 making the team.
He is enjoying his time out in Oakland and training in Napa Valley.
First preseason game is August 8th against the 49ers.
