    Here's one indicator:

    www.SDSUfans.com/board

    vs.

    http://coyotesports.proboards100.com/index.cgi

Look at the number of posts and members.

But then again, I'm sure the three USD fans that post on that board would say I look at everything through blue and yellow glasses.

    Go Jacks!!
    SDSU...Passionate, Relentless, Champions.

I have heard many times in the past that we want to compare ourselves to Montana. The U of Montana has a radio network of 17 stations, a weekly coaches show on several TV stations, and most of their football games are telecast. They also do really well in attendance. Do they have a big time media set up because they are good, or are they good because they have a big time media set up? Do you think this effects the way people think about Montana State? There is no question who the big dog in that state is.

Right now we are getting beaten in the "media wars" by folks in 2 locations down the interstate. I am tired of it, and I feel that it better be addressed soon before we fall further behind.
Collegewatcher, I follow your thoughts and this and can see your point. Do you think that by having a Jacks network of radio stations and TV coverage for home and away will boost attendance? It might, but we are going to have to have the improved stadium that is in the works and it would need to be a first rate operation. I am really torn on the home game TV coverage. If it would get more people in the stands, who wouldn't be for it? I guess it comes down to "what came first, the chicken or the egg" theory.

I don't think one team "dominates" but I do believe you will find more SDSU fans and see more SDSU apparel. The larger DI universities in the region capture some of the fan base. Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, and Iowa State all have some local fan interest. Dominate would not be a good term to describe fan numbers for one university over the other.

Here is the thing WNAX has a broadcast of almost all of south dakota the hills are sketchy and northwestern south dakota is sketchy but other then that WNAX broadcast almost all of south dakota... there FM station isn't near as good but I heard that they were working on getting the majority of the Womens games on WNAX also.

I see this board is much more active than the USD message board. Thanks for the input.

More USD fans post on this site than they do on their own site. Go figure.

I have friends that live in Brookings that watch the webcast over the internet rather than go to the actual games. Granted they are still contributing to SDSU by their all-access fees, but I think the athletic dept. is probably right in not broadcasting home games on TV for now.

Did they used to go to games?

They've never been fans who have consistently gone to alot of games, no. They haven't been to any this year but as I said have the all-access and watch them. Maybe I should be looking at it from the opposite perspective that SDSU athletics have probably gotten more revenue from the monthly all-access from my fair-weather fan friend than they would have if he went to just one home game this year like he used to.

USD is playing on national tv this weekend against UNO (CSTV I think). We cannot even get on KELO. Yes I know the Davis game was on TV, but it wasn't because of any major effort by SDSU. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if we want to grow the fan base get games on TV - KELO - FSN North - heck SD Public TV (and not the America channel that no one carries and not the internet)

I am changing my feelings on TV broadcasts after reading several of these posts and thinking about our status as a D1 school. I just mentioned in the thread about the Pride not playing at the NDSU game, if we want to be a D1 team, lets look like one. If that means getting a radio network and a TV deal, let's get it done. Living about 2 hours away, I am not staying home to watch when I can go and take in the atmosphere of gameday in Brookings. Whether it is at the Backyard or at Cubbies, you don't get that feeling in your garage watching a game drinking beer. Looks like this would be a way to get name recognition for the players and get people to want to go to CSA to see the new stadium remodeling.

I think that SDSU has a much stronger following statewide. USD may have a following that isn't far behind SDSU in the larger cities in the east but when you get into the western two-thirds of the state then SDSU is the dominant school. Jackmd is right on the other major schools from border states are also strong.

I have to agree with the statement above. If nothing else than for the NDSU game. Sure, weather is a factor when it comes to going to the game but those people are going to stay home whether it is on the radio or television. Coughlin-Alumni holds probably a max of 16,000 and with the NDSU travels it will be a big crowd. If the GWFC Championship is on the line it will be a HUGE crowd. It needs/deserves to be on the television in the region!

My hope is that a media package is being worked on. It might be complicated with the rules that the Summitt League and the Gateway Football Conference put on us to get something solid put together. I think it would serve the school well.

I have a number of friends in the Black Hills who are USD alumni. Most of them have no idea that USD currently has an athletic program. I don't know why. They just don't seem to care.

A guy I know told me about his recent visit to Scheel's in Sioux Falls. He was trying on an SDSU pullover. The sales lady told him that if he wanted it, he better get it, because they can't keep them in stock.

So he says to her that he bets the SDSU stuff sells a lot better than that red crap on the nearby sales rack. She says, "Not even close. Not even close." Maybe she was just a good salesperson, but I'll bet she was speaking nothing but the truth.
