  • 2024 FCS Playoffs Pick'em/Discussion - Round 1

2nd annual FCS Playoffs Pick'em contest is finally here (sorry for the delay, folks... it's been a crazy week...). Last year's winner was SteelSD, with Rabit99 coming in a near second.

Rules are simple! Correct picks in rounds 1-2 are worth 1 point each, round 3/quarterfinals are worth 2 points each, round 4/semifinals are worth 3 points each, and the championship game is worth 5 points. Choices may either be an outright winner, or a spread pick if the game isn't expected to be close.

Rounds 2 and after will feature a predicted margin of victory for each game to be used as tiebreakers. Your prediction will stand whether or not you correctly picked the winner. If you predict a margin of victory will be 7 points, and the game finishes 7-0 or 40-47, you'll have a perfect zero MOV for that game, regardless of who wins. If the game ends in say.... a 59-0 drubbing... you'll score a gaudy and very bad 52... Lowest average/total MOV will get the nod in the event of a tie.

Happy predictions! Happy playoffs! And happy Thanksgiving too! It's the most exciting time of the year!

First game kicks off at 1 pm central time on Saturday. If you want to change your picks after first submittal, simply fill out the form again and resubmit... I'll take your latest picks submitted before first kickoff.

Happy Friday to everyone, and happy 2024 FCS playoffs-eve!!!! We have 18 submissions so far - hope to see quite a few more still! I realize not posting it until Wednesday may complicate some people's ability to participate with potential Thanksgiving travels... soo perhaps we'll have to figure something out if someone missed this first round and are granted a hardship waiver by the NCAA due to late posting and travels.

First couple games have reached halftime. Redbirds up 28-7 over the Redhawks, scoring 28 unanswered, thanks in large part to 4 first-half SEMO turnovers --- including a 59-yard pick-six by a defensive lineman off a batted down pass. Three of those TD's were in the final 6 minutes of the half. Starting SEMO cornerback ejected early for spitting.... camera work is rough... no live stats on ESPN... odd game to be watching!

In another no-live stats because what the heck is going on this is the FCS playoffs for cryin' out loud... Rhode Island up 14-7 at halftime on Central Connecticut.

Game 3, UT Martin is up on #16 New Hampshire 10-7 at the top of the 2nd.

Illinois State with their 6th takeaway, and 4th interception on the day.

Two pick-sixes, both on tipped/batted balls. Looks bad for the QB, but most of these INT's are on his receivers having clubs for hands.

Crimson generic avians up 35-14 over the crimson slightly-more-specific avians of prey. 5:28 left in the 3rd.

SEMO with 7 turnovers, down 35-14 with 13:52 left in the game. 4th and 2 turnover on downs from the short 17-yard line for an unofficial 8th turnover.

#10 Rhode Island appearing to struggle with Central Connecticut 21-17.

UT-Martin up 27-7 at half over #16 New Hampshire.

#9 Richmond 3-0 over Lehigh end of 1.

Eastern Kentucky taking #11 Nova to the woodshed, up 14-0 after 1.

The CAA appears to be struggling.

i did not really give this any thought. thought there was money involved. if it is just for fun, I know i am late, but you could just give me the seeds, except for NAU. i believe that would give me some teams that are trailing or lost already or close to losing

LGR, your case will be reviewed, pending the decision on your hardship waiver by the NCAA.

I have 4 kids ages 7 and under, 2 of which are in daycare still. 'Just for fun' is all I can afford!

Absolutely atrocious call in the EKU-Villanova game. EKU scored on a scoop and score that was overturned as they said it was an incompletion not a fumble. Replay showed the QB clearly had the ball knocked out of his hands after he pulled it back when he was looking to pitch it forward. If EKU loses that call right there will be why.

Lehigh with a big upset brewing over #9 Richmond. Up 20-16 with 2:20 left. Lehigh driving.

Game has featured 2 serious injuries of Lehigh players being carted off. I didn't see the first, but the 2nd was truly an unremarkable play with almost zero contact. Certainly heavy situations, especially with the Alabama A&M fresh on the mind. Prayers to all involved there.
