Am I allowed to say Screw the U here or do I have to save that for the smack area? Just curious.

Does anybody have any strong feeling on how this Saturday's game will play out? I am confident we can win, but that dome is a house of horrors at times. Basketball was always a toss up in there and football, well, I don't want to talk about it. If we play like we are capable of, this sucker will be over before halftime. USD can hold their own, but I feel we are on a different level when we aren't shooting ourselves in the foot.

I'm confident no one on staff will think this, given the "second that will live in infamy."

I'm interested in seeing how many picks the Jacks DBs can come up with, and I'd like to see a couple plays with a Davis & Johnson-Squared backfield, perhaps tossing a screen pass from that set.

I'm glad GameDay opted for another location, but I'd definitely be a fan of them heading to Brookings to showcase Showdown next season.

The Hogs need to impose their will early, and Quentin C will see a lot of action as the 6th O lineman.

One word….methodically! Long version: Do what we do on offense. On defense, be prepared for some splash plays, know they may go tempo, and be ready for the gadgets. Probably most importantly “win the response”!
A great first half will send their fans out to the “20,00” people they claimed to have outside. For those of us not visiting the water treatment facility…Look forward to the Main Street watch party in Brookings!

We've lost the last two times in the World's Largest Septic Tank(WLST). For this group of 5 and 6 year players, a win in the WLST is one of the few things left to accomplish. They will have to play better than they did last Saturday.

I get all of the rivalry clichés that normally apply. As business like as this bunch is, you can't tell me that they haven't been looking forward to this game. They have something to prove down there. Sure, I'd take a one point win and on to the next, but this is an opportunity to make another statement.

It will be interesting to see how much blue is in the building. They never sell out. My guess is Jackrabbit Nation will be felt. To those going, please make sure all your shots are up to date!

            Time to go Coyote hunitng!

I am quietly confident that the Jacks will play very well and come home with a 2 TD win. That being said, PLEASE do not wear the white pants, blue jersey and blue rabbit helmet! Didn't perform well last week and they certainly bring back bad memories of our last visit to Vermilion! Yes, I am a very superstitious person!

I'll be happiest if we have at least a nine point lead when the clock ticks down to one second.

It will be all white. They have yet to lose in the white helmets.

And the blue stripes with yellow fringe. You remember what happened last time when they had the yellow stripes with blue fringe. <shudder> And don't even mention the time when it was the blue on black helmets with yellow swirls. /sarc

I'm glad someone is keeping track of the wardrobe, cause it aint me.

Bottom line: USD hasn't been able to stop the run when it mattered. Case studies: YSU and NSDU. If we rush for 150+ yds, the rest of the offense opens up. At that point, the only thing that can beat us is ourselves.

While I think everyone agrees that NDSU is and has been our main rivalry since the DI era began, it can't be said that JSD is somehow not our rival anymore. The activity in this thread alone (in what has become an otherwise sleepy forum) is the anecdotal proof.

If this game was against a generic team with JSD's resume and played in a generic venue, I would assume that we win by two touchdowns. It's hard to get a gauge on how good JSD is. JSD shouldn't be faulted for beating lousy teams but the resume isn't impressive. Missouri certainly is a good team, but the NDSU victory is less impressive today than it was a few weeks ago. Different teams match up differently, but JSD didn't exactly dominate NDSU. NDSU got handled by UND. We handled UND. UND got pistol-whipped by UNI and we throttled UNI. If this was a generic team or a generic venue, I'd say JSD is a paper tiger and SDSU ought to win and win comfortably.

But this isn't a generic team and it isn't being played in a generic location. JSD has been to SDSU the last several years, what SDSU was to NDSU in the more distant past - an occasional stumbling block, with the difference being that for a decade SDSU was very good, but could not get past the Fargodome in the playoffs and Bison would go on to win a natty notwithstanding an occasional loss to SDSU.

JSD has not had anywhere near the sustained success SDSU has had, obviously, but has played the role of foil the last two meetings deep in the recesses of the World's Largest Septic Tank (WLST). JSD getting a good bit of luck in this game is as certain as the stench of sewer in the basement of the JSD Knudson School of Law.

Is SDSU's superiority greater than JSD's WLST luck? Is JSD for real or is their resume as fraudulent as their attendance figures? Will SDSU fans negate any home septic tank advantage? Is the JSD defense as good as advertised, or were they exposed by YSU? Was the JSD offense exposed by ISUb?

If SDSU hangs onto the ball and if the MVFC memo re: flag the Jacks doesn't make it to Vermillion, I say 28-14 visitors.

Apparently the "it's a rivalry/it's not a rivalry" talk has fired up again, especially with USD's (somewhat surprising) emergence as a very good football team this year.

Answers: Yes, it's a rivalry. It always has been. It always will be. It has not in recent years been SDSU's biggest football rivalry, that would be NDSU. I would say that the performance of USD's squad this year has significantly narrowed the RIVALRY GAP!!!!! between NDSU and USD for SDSU.

Many schools struggle to maintain a single rivalry with another school. SDSU has a buffet of schools which are legitimate rivals, just depending on the sport(s) involved--I consider USD and NDSU, and possibly ORU as all-sports rivals (with UND and perhaps Omaha sniffing around that status as well). Denver's a major WSoc rival. I'm sure if I thought about it a while I could come up with others for individual sports.

So the question isn't so much "who is/are SDSU's rival(s)," it's where do you draw the line.
                        "I think we'll be OK"
