[Note: Even though SDSU continues to be listed as #1, some idiot inputting information for the NCAA site lists the Jackrabbits' win/loss record as 2-1. Of course, football fans know the Jacks are 3-0. The NCAA site has an email address at which one may report errors...I've sent a message about the incorrect win/loss record.
Want to wager some SDSU ice cream that the artificially "intelligent" person is mistaking Jacks for 'Yotes and only looking as far as "South Dakota"?

They both have notes that the rankings are through 9/17/23.

I know that last year they typically weren't updated until late Sun./early Mon.

The NCAA website includes a piece titled "These are the "Bluebloods" of FCS Football". The story is dated March 30, 2023 and I read it shortly after it appeared on the NCAA website. This weekend I reread the story. It's worth the time to read, featuring the legendary programs in FCS Football, a level attained by the Jackrabbits, according to author, Stan Becton.

        Enjoyable reading:

            SAGARIN AFTER 9/30/23 GAMES.

Sagarin ranks all 261 D1 football teams. The following list shows the top 25 FCS teams and also lists the remaining MVFC teams which are not in the top 25. The first number is the FCS team’s current ranking (games through 9/30/23). The second number is the FCS team’s overall Sagarin D1 ranking among all 261 D1 schools. The number that follows (in parenthesis) was the FCS team’s overall Sagarin D1 ranking from last week (games through 9/23/23). Next is the FCS team and its conference.

The Sagarin rankings are coldly calculated by a computer…compare that to the FCS Stats Perform and the FCS Coaches polls where the voters’ subjective decision-making process determine the poll rankings. The 9/30/23 polls ought to be interesting due in part to the SDSU drubbing of UND and the USD win at NDSU. USD made a big jump in the Sagarin rankings from 156 to 127.

FCS Rank Overall D1 School and Conference

Even with the game in Vermillion, lord no! There is no upside for State with that.

I meant for this year only. We can say it's to make up for their missed Covid game in Brookings and allow them to keep the equivalent of a sold out Dakotadome plus 15 percent.

It’s October 2, 2023, 7:30 am, and still no update to the FCS Coaches poll or the Stats Perform Poll available on the NCAA.org website. Looks to me that the USD win in Fargo has caused a lot of head scratching. Those polls typically update each Sunday.

We've discussed a College Gameday return for Marker in Nov. Perhaps a more interesting hypothetical -- what might the chances of such a return be for the Showdown game if it were in Brookings and Jacks and 'Yotes both kept winning through 10/28?

I suppose Gameday could go to Vermillion, but I'll echo statement made elsewhere. Move the game to Howard Wood and see what Gameday says.

Sam Herder covers FCS for Hero Sports website and he votes in the Stats Perform Top 25 poll which, along with the FCS Coaches poll, is featured on the NCAA website. Herder published his ballot— he’s put USD at 9 and NDSU at 10.

Big jumps for USD (Stats>Coaches). NDSU drops to 7/8. MSU to #2. Still a lot to be proved but general concensus was and is that NDSU would be down but they are still the Bison and will be in the thick of it. USD beat a much better Bison team in 2015 and finished 5-6 after a 3-1 start. Maybe USD will surprise but history here says the Yotes faithful shouldn't get out over their skis.

Although a good win, I wouldn't read too much into the USD win in Fargo. They also won there in 2015. NDSU won it all that year and USD finished under .500.

That win might mean USD is good and it might not mean anything.

Josh Davis is doing a great job down there.

He will be a head coach next season somewhere.
