  • Thoughts from a Bobcat fan

Hi all. What terrific game last night. My group and I traveled from MT, for the game, with great anticipation of a tremendous battle (and a Bobcat win).
I can honestly say it didn't disappoint! Emotional highs and lows. Drama. Game decided on last play with a flurry of high action in the last two minutes. It was just too good
Some insights from a competitor's fan:
    1) After rain being in the forecast, it was such a beautiful evening for a game.
2)Stadium was great. Shares many similarities to MSU's
    3) Loved that I could have a beer during the game.
    4) Your videoboard/sound system is nice. When they played AC/DC Bavk in Black, my buddy made the comment that hr wished hr had the speaker system in his bouse.
    5) I love that you guys actually show replays on controversial calls. MSU could take note of this.
    6) It goes without saying, but you have a fantastic team. They deserve crowds like I witnessed last night (you guys were awesome). If we see a match up again this year, I sure hope it's in Frisco.
    7) Finally, the fans we met were great. Respectful, fun loving, passionate about their team. This was actually a discussion point of our way back to Sioux Falls last night after the game.

All of the above made the long trip extremely worthwhile. Enjoy the rest of your season.

Thank you for the compliments. What a game. I’m enjoying the rivalry our schools have developed and hope we keep playing this game annually. We will likely see you again this winter!

      Thanks for the gracious post.

Hope Mellott makes a quick recovery, and if Jacks and 'Cats meet again this season, Jacks have Bock, will've made adaptations to stuff run earlier, and the game isn't settled on a near cardiac-inducing sequence

That was likely the biggest visiting fan presence we've had for any schools other than NDSU and maybe USD. It wasn't close to a cleanly played game by either team, but it certainly was exciting and entertaining. I expect we may meet again this season, but hopefully not before Frisco !

This post reminds me why I had a GREAT time 6 years ago at the game in Bozeman. Great Team and Great Fans.

I can’t wait to go to Bozeman in 2025.

Might take a week off work and make a vacation out of it with Yellowstone and other stuff.

Thanks to the Jacks fans for all your hospitality, You were great I drank a lot of your beer.

We drove 12 hours and got into Brookings about 5:00 PM, checked in and went downtown and ate at Cubby's. talked with lots of Jacks fans and a few Cat's that were out too. Good burger but a little well done for this ranch kid.
Saturday we went around the campus in the morning and got to the tailgates about 3:00
Great atmosphere and good football talk. I had a lot of Jack fans just randomly walk up and thank us for coming and talk football.
Stadium was full and fans around us were good, gave each other a little crap here and there but shook hand at the end.
We drove the 12 hours back on Sunday.

It was a great time and I think we will meet up again this year, hopefully its in Texas.

ps. I tried your Ears Up beer, it wasn't bad but it was a little hoppy for my taste.

Have the Cats ever run anything on the goal line other than Chambers in the shotgun in an empty backfield ? Was waiting for him to jump under center and run a sneak, or do a three back set or something to mix it up. Certainly makes it easier to defend with only one option.

We have in the past, but so far this year that seems to be the only short yardage play in our playbook, coach and OC seem to be trying to pound a square peg in a round hole to me. Lots of mistakes by both teams, we had the opportunities to win it, but its still early in the season.

Gotta have some hops when it's named for 'rabbits!

A lot of MSU fans made the trip -- good people! It seemed they had about twice the volume one would expect for the number attending. They could be clearly heard throughout the entire game. I hope we continue to face MSU and UM on a regular basis. The game was billed as being like a playoff game and both teams played up to that billing. It's hard to measure but the pounding each team was giving to the other team had a lot to do with penalties and plays that didn't go as planned. I think both teams are realistic choices for a trip to Frisco.

Both teams likely played a little tight with this big of a game this early in the season. And neither team had much of a challenge in their opening game. Good luck the rest of the season, and hope to see you in Frisco !

Report was that the Jacks and 'Cats exchanged/will exchange $100k for this game and Jacks' trip there in 2025. How much do you think Jacks would have to pay Grizz to travel to Brookings?

Don't think they've been here since their sole visit in 1970.

If memory serves me correctly we had a home and home with Montana and they bought out the return to Brookings. I assume the admins at Montana have changed, but they did not show any integrity. At least with Costello we have a relationship and that has brought strategic scheduling with multiple sports.

I rhink the fans on both sides thought their teams should have played better. One of the objectives of playing well is to make the opponent play below their potential. From that perspective, both teams played well. Let's do it again.
