  • ?? ESPN College Gameday in 23??

Lots of reasons to bring College Gameday back to Brookings.

    Here are the facts:

The defending FCS National Champs and .pre-season FCS #1 Jackrabbits hosting the FCS runnersup and pre-season #2 Bison. It'll be for the Dakota Marker, the most famous FCS rivalry trophy. Pat McAfee, now a part of the regular cast for Gameday, will return to campus. I'll buy him a new SDSU hoodie and he'll have the option to keep the sleeves or tear them off like he did in 2019, the last time Gameday was on campus.

We lost the Marker game in Fargo in 2019, 16-23. But that was the last time the Bison took possession of the Marker. The history of the Dakota Marker possession favors NDSU by one, 10-9. We even it up this season. Look at the trendline since 2019--

    2020-21 (4/17/21) in Fargo: SDSU 27, NDSU 17
    2021 (11/6/21) in Brookings: SDSU 27, NDSU 19
    2022 (10/15/22) in Fargo: SDSU 23, NDSU 21.

And, of course, SDSU brought home the FCS Championship Trophy in January of this year, beating, and I mean beating, NDSU 45-21.

SO ALL ESPN PRODUCERS AND PRESENTERS READING THIS MESSAGE BOARD (that includes you SVP) -- SDSU vs NDSU, November 4...SDSU, in front of 20,000 screaming fans, with five straight wins over NDSU, four of those wins for the Dakota Marker and one for another trophy that was delivered in Frisco.. all college football fans will be aware of the game. Gameday at 8:00 a.m. Kickoff at 2:00 p.m. The one certain prediction: it'll be a great game.

    ESPN. Be there.

I know, "one game at a time". But ESPN has to do some planning.

Back to regular programming. A reasonably good D2 Western Oregon is the first trial of this season. Go Jacks!

I'm a fan of your prediction, but I'm thinking that will have to mean that Tigers or Tide regress this season, as they also match up that day.

As much as I would love to see it, the schedule doesn't look favorable for that as Jake pointed out. Alabama hosting LSU, Clemson hosting Notre Dame, USC hosting Washington, Texas hosting K State, OK State hosting Oklahoma, and Ole Miss hosting Texas A&M that day.

Montana State game on September 9th is another possibility as only there are only 2 Top 25 matchups. Although one of them is Texas @ Alabama with Gameday likely going there.

I know NDSU got it a few times, and I think they've maybe been trying to do an FCS game each year. But the fact that we had it 4 years ago, I'm just going to assume it'll be a decade or more before we get it again. There's FBS programs that have never had it, or recently got their first.

Sounds like there are rumors of Gameday possibly going to Vermillion next week. If this happens, I know there is going to be a comparison to when Gameday came to Brookings in 2019 and the NDSU fans claimed they were the reason more so than SDSU for the appearance. This year is completely different in my opinion. At the time we had a long string of playoff appearances and multiple quarterfinal/semifinal appearances. If I'm not mistaken, USD has a total of one playoff win and they are coming off a 3-8 season. To top things off they had less than 4,000 fans last week at a ranked matchup vs Youngtown. I guess this would still be a good thing for SDSU, just rubs me the wrong way that they have done nothing to deserve it.

I would be willing to bet a good chunk of my life savings that Gameday will not be at SDSU @ USD. However, there are not a lot of great ranked FBS matchups that day... ESPN will take one look at USD home attendance and laugh away the thought of game day.
                Oregon @ Utah
                Duke @ Louisville
                Colorado @ UCLA

According to the USD fan forum they have been in contact with ESPN already. Granted they are all visiting teams but Oregon, Duke, and Colorado have all had Game Day visits in 2023.

Agree, but it's not that they broadcast the game (they didn't the Jack's vs Bizon game), it's just a place to have GameDay with a story. The Coyote campus is pretty this time of year, so there's that, but yah, half or more of the GameDay crowd would be Jack's students and fans, could be an epic rumble at 7 am

I’ll be surprised if GameDay comes here. Yes, we didn’t have the national championship when they came to Brookings but we had years and years of playoff and conference success at the FCS level, they have next to nothing. If they do come, I hope it’s a lot of blue and yellow in the crowd. Hoping the same is true for the game. I think quite a few SDSU fans bought tickets for this game months ago.

Which would have more Coyote fans, Gameday or the actual game? I hope Gameday goes to Vermillion. I thought it was pretty fun when they came to Brookings. It will be a great experience for their fan base and I am guessing they will have some interesting stories. I can't stand the Mangy Mutts, but any attention the MVFC can get won't hurt.
                        Possible stories:
                        1) Dead animals thrown
                        2) Tom Brokaw
                        3) Pat McAfee fill in for Adam V.
                        4) SDSU National Championship
                        5) USD upset of NDSU, who turns out sucks and isn't really an upset
                        6) USD having to hire an SDSU guy to turn their pathetic program around--never mind that they tried that in basketball as well with no results
One hand points to campus...the other to the liquor store.

I agree 100% you nailed it. Whether it's enough to get Prime off the stage is yet to be seen,.

..oh by the way, both have to take care of business this week, not a given in the MVFC, and certainly not for the Jack's vs SIU, a real thorn in the side the last few years.
