  • McCormick and Greenfield Returning

Huge news from Twitter - Mason McCormick and Garret Greenfield both tweeted today that they will be returning to play for the Jacks next season. Means the entire offensive line should be back !

Great news! Hopefully Zach Heins comes back, too! And the Janke boys! And, well, I guess I'd better not get too greedy.
    This space for lease.

Agree on Heins but remember that for every super senior that stays, there is the potential that a committed recruit can decide to go elsewhere. Would you want to keep the Janke twins for 1 year and risk losing Wilde for 4 for example ?

        Wilde would be #1, Janke's #2 and #3?

Your point is 100% valid!! and my guess is there are many and widely varied opinions regarding the answer

for myself i will say at least in this case, the Jankes are a KNOWN quantity. we have had a LOT of very hyped recruits who have ended up doing nothing. and in my memory it seems like the WR position is the most common place that this happens

just in the last few years

          Feldkamp
          M Paulson
          Coons

were all exciting recruits, who have done nothing or close to it. we have had more than 1 or 2 others, either still on the roster or not, who also did not reach expectations. so i think in general, i would prefer to get an extra year of someone who is a proven contributor, especially in this case. they are not just contributors they are borderline all conference and / or all american. so again i will take the extra year of proven high level production as opposed to someone with potential

potential means they have the potential to be good or more and also the potential to fall short of expectations or more

i have to imagine that there could be scenarios where i would say take the guy with 4 years, but in this case and i think in most to all cases when we are discussing all conference players, i will say give me the KNOWN STUD for another year

another factor here is that we also have probably Grono back and the O line back and Bock. we have a LOT of the pieces back for another conference championship team or more, but we are losing Kraft, maybe Hiens and maybe the Jankes. can Wilde step in immediately and replace most of that receiving production? it would be HUGE to keep the Jankes for next year

More than the incoming recruits choosing to go elsewhere (many of them will redshirt anyway) I see the likelihood that some of the guys already on the roster would choose to leave. Some of them aren't going to have 6 years to play and may not want to spend another year of their 4/5 years of eligibility behind All-Americans.

I get the concern with losing recruits or guys to the portal. IMO its way more good than bad because the past few years the strength of team has been in the trenches and its so vital to be a championship caliber team. Also at O line there is also 3 other positions to compete for, and the leadership and edge that Mason brings is hard to replace. If Heinz or Janke's come back I would be more worried about losing someone of the depth chart currently than a recruit. Most recruits need a yr in the weight room due be able to hold up physical not ability. After Listening to there interviews on the Stig show I think Jaxon is going to try the next level. Jaden was mainly talking about going back to the farm. So I would say if any maybe Jaden.

I wonder about Caleb if he plans to try the next level.

The Colonel is one of the seniors that does not have any eligibilty left, so he is done with college ball regardless.

Did we lose anyone to the portal?

The portal just opened and is open until Jan. 5. If anyone is considering it, hopefully they will wait until the Jacks season is over. If we make it to Frisco, they would have to declare before the championship game.

Jadon and Jaxon accepted Hula Bowl invite, per twitter and Hula Bowl main page

Was trying to look into this a bit. Looks like the requirements for this bowl are "The athletes invited must be college seniors or recent graduates." Not sure how it works with individuals eligible for another year because of the covid season.

Per Zim, we can expect more players to announce their return soon. Who is eligible to return? The obvious one to stick out would be Heinz, but I believe there are some possible candidates on the D-Line.

There were 12 players that went through Senior Day activities. 4 of them are out of eligibility (Sanders, Winkelman, Wolf, Lofton), and 4 of them have announced they are coming back (Janke x2, McCormick, Greenfield). So that leaves the following (Heinz, Shafer, Norblade, Drotzmann). My money is on Heinz, which would be awesome. Give these young TE's some room to grow.
