  • 2022 Depth Chart

The cupboard is far from empty. As shared in another thread, I'm interested in the OL and the secondary. These are my early predictions. Spring ball will really determine a lot of the depth. There hasn't been a true "spring ball" in two years so this will be a chance for the coaches to really coach up the younger guys.

    Offense Predictions
QB RB TE TE LT LG C RG RT WR WR WR3
Gronowski Davis Kraft Heins Greenfield McCormick White G. Miller Donald Janke Janke Wolf
Gibbs/Mason/Voss Am. Johnson Morgan Seagren Christensen Lee Beerntsen Vibert/ Bloomenradar Brown Coons Feldkamp Bauer

    Defense Predictions
DE DT DT DE Sam Mike Will CB CB FS SS
Winkelman Sanders DePriest Terveer Francl Bock Stallbird Beanum Gales Reeder Norblade
    Keumogne/Brenner Van Marel Wolfcale-Holsten Hicks/C. Johnson Barnett/Mcgaughy Shafer/Madison Spalding/Kusler Lofton Arrell Huether/Crockett Durrance
I would really like to see Quinton Hicks return to his pass rush specialist role. His frame may just be to small to be a fulltime DE. Drop the weight and just focus on getting the QB like he did as a freshman.
Jackrabbits: Long ears, strong hind legs, gritty, relentless, fearless.

Was I just imagining things, or did Beanum hardly see the field at all at corner on Saturday ?

Just saw the answer in your post in the Transfer Portal thread. Amazing considering the productivity he had in the last few games.

Great news! Jacks skill players are stacked with Gronowski/Mason at QB. Is it Sept 3rd yet??

My main concern in O line depth and the back half of the defense. I think our pass d was our Achilles heel last fall and our O line took a step back after a really dominant spring. I think our run D will be strong and our offense in general will be very efficient if a little less explosive without PSJ. Interested to see the offensive play calling and schemes and what touch Lujan puts on things. I think this team will go as far as the defense allows it.

And for the love of God, I hope we are done with me injuries.

Jacks have offers out to a pair of offensive tackles in the portal from Northern Colorado and Western Illinois. It would be nice to land one or both of them.

I was told Chase Mason was seen walking around campus with a heavy limp and large knee brace. I believe he had a knee injury senior year of high school. “Didn’t look good”.

Some names I see missing from the 2022 roster. May be more? J'Bore Gibbs, Thomas Motzko, Corben Mahaffy, Chandler Carter, Ethan Eilers, Adam White, Caleb Schauf, Wyatt Seagren.

According to Jackrabbit Illustrated, Gibbs is in the portal. Figured something was up when he didn't get mentioned in the QB preview video posted a few days ago.

feel so bad for him and his injuries. He had such a promising future. I blame it on NDSU since thats when he got hurt.....Hopefully he finds a good fit and can recover. How good he was on the sidelines from what I hear he probably could have a future in coaching.

I remember sitting at that game thinking, "Wow, this is the first of four years of Gibbs vs. Lance." Little did we know it would be the only Marker game for either of them.

If i recall, many of the NDSU fans were like, dang, they got the better QB. Sports are crazy that way. Never take anything for granted.

Update out of spring ball: Gus Miller has moved to center. Beerntsen playing RG. White is no longer on the roster. Depth is a bit of concern across the OL. Sounds like Rudy Voss has been impressive at QB so far. Mark is no doubt QB1 but Rudy has separated himself from the others.

Stallbird is staying at SAM and Spalding is getting first team snaps at WILL. Crockett is no longer on the roster but Huether will be pushing Reeder for the starting job. Obviously, Brian Williams will be in the rotation at defensive tackle (his transfer wasn't announced when I created my depth chart). Jason Freeman will also factor in somewhere in the LB group.

Zimmer confirmed the Mason injury on Twitter. It’s not confirmed how severe it is yet. Feel bad for the kid and hope he can recover if it is something that will keep him sidelined this fall. What a bummer.

I am concerned about our depth at QB and on the O line. I’m also concerned because we can’t afford to use Gronowski in a running capacity the way we did in the spring season without a major risk of injury. But that running ability is what made our offense go.
