Why isn't Southern eligible for the playoffs. It says in the press release:

"While Southern is a 1AA member, it is not eligible for the playoffs.

Can anyone tell me why that is?

The short answer is they choose not to be.  The SWAC plays "Classics" while the I-AA playoffs are going on.  These HBCU "Classics" get huge crowds and are money makers for the Universities in the SWAC.

I am sure one of our Jaguar friends can do a better job of explaining, and I will yeild the floor to them.
