    Re: NDSU game thread

Watch the broadcast live in Rochester. All I can say is that despite all the turmoil and indecsion that may exist in the world today, everything is right in my world tonight.

SDSU was clearly the better team tonight. Better on defense, better on offense, better in the kicking game and a wash on special teams covering.

What a huge win for the Jackrabbits!!!

Please bring on the naysayers (losers) and envinous media members (Mike_H included) who continue to push their own short-sighted, self-inflated media opinions on those who are undecided. Defend yourselves as you must, but once again (as I suspect is often the case) they are wrong and will continue to be. Again, pity is the word.

Way to go Jacks keep it in perspective. Even though it isn't about the here and now, it is. How proud and I to be a Jackrabbit, I can't put it into words.

Go Rochester!! That is where I grew up, but now I live in So Dak. You must work at Mayo, St. Mary's or Methodist. My Father has worked for Mayo for 30 years. Nice to see an SDSU grad. there. (Iknow you aren't the only one)

I have been at Mayo for 4 years now. Only 8 of us at the NDSU hosted broadcast. As they say, it doesn't get any better than this. SDSU was clearly the better team. Can't wait to play the rest of the GWFC and Georgia Southern. I know we can beat any of those teams. Davis was an abberation.

At the game, but had to leave in the third quarter due to sick kids. > :'( Listenedn to WNAX all the way home. What a battle. Got to see the game winning TD on KSFY. What a run by Molitor.

The game was a battle the entire way. Both teams fought it out, although the Bison paid for their inability to keep their fighting within the rules. I just wish I would have been there till the end.

I don't mean to rub it in for those of you who were not there, but that was easily one of the best (if not the best) games I have ever seen played at Coughlin Alumni Stadium. Chris Molitor's game winning run after the catch was very Josh Ranek like. He wasn't going down!

              Re: NDSU game thread

Sounds like us long-distance alumni missed a hell of a game. I need to track down some local SDSU and NDSU alumni and work on getting a closed circuit broadcast here in Boise. I see SDSU and NDSU sweatshirts here all the time.

The live stats were nice to follow. The next item on my gojacks.com wish list would be some video highlights. I'd give anything to see a replay of last night's final touchdown.

AJacks is correct: Molitor's run was very Ranek-like. I'd love to get a tape of that.

That finish ranks up there with the top few I've witnessed. It serves as yet another example of how a team just cannot give up.

Excellent suggestion JD. Was the satellite broadcast taped? I am sure it was. I would plunk down $25 in a second for just a copy of the last drive. That drive will be the subject of many a great stories in the future.

What a remarkable year 2004 will be when we look back on it. They year we moved to DI, defeated Southern, the drive against NDSU in front of 12,000 fans, breaking into the top 24 and whatever the rest of this year brings. Not that anymore is needed.

Does anyone here have season tickets to the Jacks?  I gave up my KC Chiefs tickets this year and am looking to get Jacks tickets next year.  Do they give decent seats to new season ticket holders?
                    TK,

Welcome to the board. Funny you should ask. I also gave up my KC Chief tickets this year (15% price hike . . . third most expensive ticket in the NFL > ), and got Jackrabbit season tickets. Not only are they a bargain, and the Jacks are more fun to watch, but I have great seats (45 yard line 12 rows up). I would encourage anyone who was interested to get season tickets and join the Jackrabbit club. It is money well spent. In the future, we have some of the best teams in the nation coming to Brookings. Georgia Southern the current #1 team in I-AA (opened their season with a great showing against Georgia) is scheduled for Brookings next year. As Timbuk Three sang . . . The futures so bright I gotta wear shades! 8)

I agree 100%! I can't remember a better game at Coughlin. The 1985 Hobo Day game was fun but didn't have the drama that this one did. Are you kidding me, two 4 down conversions. Wow what a game!

Jackrabbits basking in glow of win over North Dakota St.

                        . . .

This game had plenty of made-for-TV drama. Back-and-forth. Slobber-knocking defense versus elegent offense. Which do you think South Dakotans would rather have watched on Saturday - a soccer match that the majority of Americans can't enjoy or understand or a rock 'em, sock 'em football border battle with a playoff-type atmosphere?

Of course, most of the state media has been slow to jump on the Jackrabbits' bandwagon. Saturday's game was televised in North Dakota, but not picked up in South Dakota, showing how wide a chasm exists between the two states. There is a second-tier mentality that permeates South Dakota, and SDSU will need more and more of these kinds of major victories and large crowds in all sports to make believers out of these Division II-centrists.

And with the University of North Dakota now flip-flopping toward Division I, depending on the life of a Division II proposal on the NCAA table to again cut football scholarships, it's extremely important for SDSU to distinguish itself from that other Dakota. A marriage of UND and NDSU could be more attractive to the Big Sky Conference, which has identified the Jacks and Bison among its list of potential new members, for reasons of rivalry and proximity.

The analysis and university-wide studies that the Fighting Sioux must go through, like the ones that SDSU and NDSU already conducted, could take a year or more, meaning UND wouldn't be eligible for NCAA postseason competition until 2009-10 at the earliest if they made a leap of faith by the end of this school year. The Big Sky has said it wants to move on membership issues by this spring.

                        . . .

I dont think we need to get parnoid about UND and what they may or may not do. With the sitting president being totally opposed to moving up from D2, I think its going to take some heavy pressure to change his mind. Also, the Ralph Englestad estate is a major player in how day to day operations are being handled in the Athletic Department at UND.

Its nice to have one generous donor, but when it gets to be millions of dollars and building facilities on campus, there are issues that come to the surface.

I am of the opinion that the Englestad presence was a major consideration in chosing to stay D2. With D1 hockey program doing well, that seems to please some alums, but the BB and FB alums and fans seemed to be looking south with envy.

Over all the article by Chris was good. I think the admission process for SDSU and the Big Sky is too far down the road for UND to be any kind of an issue. They are fine institution, but they have their own unique issues to deal with. So over a glass ale, its fun to talk about, but UND needs a year or more to catch up with SDSU.

You are kidding yourself if you think that SDSU does not need to worry what UND's plans are.

I am sure jackmd will be along shortly, but if I may take the liberty of answering for now...Small crowd (from both schools) but a good time was had by all. Only 8 Jacks fans (four from jackmd and me and our wives). Only thing better would have been to be at CAS. In fact, at 9:30 I mentioned that if we left Rochester at that time, we could have made last call in Brookings.
