By the way does SDSU broadcast a weekly coaches show for Television?  If not does any one know why?

They did have "The Stig Show" which aired Sunday nights following the 10:00 news on KELO. I believe it was cut following Raneks senior year so the money could be spent elsewhere (ie travel). Maybe somehow the alumni association could put together some funds to get this going again.

The media arrangements from SDSU are puzzling at best. SDSU pays for EVERYTHING. At some point, I hope the media outlets realize that the Jacks going DI is a big opportunity for THEM as well as for the Jacks.

In the future, I hope the Sioux Falls media outlets will fight over the rights to host something like the Stig Show. It would be nice to see the athletic department not have to fork over large amounts of cash to organizations like WNAX. That money can be used in other areas...like having a few more full time assistants.

We have talked about this before, for the sake of clarification, SDSU buys the airtime and receives the revenue from the adds during the game.  So it is not exactly like we pay to have our games on the radio.

What are the chances an SDSU Football game or Basketball game will be televised next year statewide. I think it would be easy for the Sioux Falls Media to figure out a way to cover the game intown between Cal Davis and SDSU.

Do you know if the amount they pay is greater than the value of the commercial spots?

What about selling the time? Does the marketing department actually sell the air time, or is it built in to larger sponsorship deals?

Either way. I know that at larger Universities, the licence to broadcast is sold - at a HEFTY price sometimes - and the school ALSO gets air time to user for institutional spots or for sponsorship packages.

This is off the topic of stadium, but a continuance of where this thread is going...Has anyone noticed the new ESPNU channel that came out today. On DirectTV and Aldelphia cable systems for now, but more to follow. Read a press release and they plan on 24/7 coverage of college sports including football. What made it interesting is they said some of the football games will be 1-A. Does this mean the others will be 1-AA and posssibly II and III. Any talk of State getting some coverage, especially the Dakota marker game. Even if tape delayed at midnight that would be nice.

As football season approaches I was thinking about the new scoreboard and what other cosmetic things that could be done to spruce up Coughlin.

1) paint the seats. last year I was getting cuts and slivers from the peeling paint.

2) more landscaping and greenery outside of the stadium.

3) replace the surface under the grandstand.

4) pave gravel road leading into the stadium.

5) Add permanent bathrooms and concessions on the east side.

6) add seat with backs on west side.

7) add more attractive fencing around the complex.

I know some more expensive items should be on the long term planning such as identical grandstand on east side, group suites, new locker rooms, replace media box
to name a few.

Maybe someone with more insight can answer this, but I noticed a large Daktronics board had been placed just outside of city limits (north bound lane) of Brookings. Is this part of the athletic upgrades? Could it possibly be the type of signage/entrance that some were clamoring for earlier (like Colorado State).

Are you sure that isn't the amber alert signs they have along the interstate in different areas for alerting people of emergencies, abductions, etc.

I know there are a few of them around Sioux Falls and i believe one inbetween Brookings and Watertown somewhere.

I didn't get a good look at the board, but that does seem to be a logical explanation.

I agree with the list of improvements, but I would expect them after this year, but could be suprised.

High on the list is painting anywhere. For the effect it is very cost effective.

The highest though is the rough terrain under the bleachers. It's a lawsuit waiting to happen. I've tripped more than once on my way to the facilities, and for the record I was sober.

We do offer majors in landscape design and horticulture. It seems like sprucing up around the stadium ought to be a no-brainer.

I heard on the radio this morning that there are new scoreborads being installed for basketball and football. They said what the total cost was but I don't remember for sure. I am very excited about this. The scoreboard was a point of embarassment for me. I thought we had one of the best places to play in the NCC, but the scoreboard was VERY out-dated.

For the record it's now called "Landscape Architecture"

and yes, it does seem logical to have some of those students working on campus improvements.
