Re: Antonio Thompson
I haven't talked to anyone, but would see him as a linebacker/D-Line as well. He's big kid. With added size and his quickness he'd make a heck of a D-Tackle, too. Nice to have a kid with this talent on the squad. This is a huge get for the Jacks.
On the redshirt thing. Usually it's easier for a D-lineman or Corner to have his shirt pulled because the learning curve isn't as great. The linebackers have to know every aspect of the Defense and have to be able to make the right reads, be in the right gap, etc. for the defense to work. D-Ends and Tackles need to know what gap they have and that's about it. If it's against an option team, the job is a little tougher. DB's (mainly corners) need to simply know coverage (man or cover 2, etc.) and their assignment against an option team and that's about it. That's why the kids who have the ability and size to play right away at D-line or CB get their shirt's pulled and why you don't see as many LB's getting their shirt's pulled.
